• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'83 250CR dropped off at Jemco

AA Class
Just thought I'd let all know that I dropped off the '83 250CR at Jemco today along with the Husky Bulletin that has the 250CR hop-ups. Said it should be less than a month for the pipe/silencer , so all that need a pipe it's finally on the way. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

What will the cost be? Steel or aluminum silencer? It would look nice on the 1983 250XC I'm selling!

I hope it works cause that engine is a dogg! I know I have a two of them. I know of a few guy's that have tried the Husky bulletin hop up with poor results.

Frog, it will have steel silencer. I'll post up pixs when it's done.

That's what I've heard also but have a modded jug / piston kit and PC boost bottle kit to go with it. It'll be my Andy "Bro Show" Jefferson replica to back up the '82 500CR and the '81 430CR project. Heck, it's not like I can ride it anywhere close to it's potential , just like tinkering.

I have a 83 CR250, has anyone done any succesful tuning to one of these ?

I wonder how that pipe will work with an unmodded motor ?

Anything has to be better than my ratty looking stocker :applause:

Seasons greetings all

Yeah... I've got a 83 250...

I modified a vintage iron pipe to suit. Waste of time. No appreciable difference and now I'd happily put the stocker back on if I had one. The original was a pretzel.

What did wake it up a little was a TM38 flatslide from a 1985 250. That was an expensive mod. Not for the carb, as I got it from ebay for 40 bucks, but the first time she hit the 'band the clutch let go!! :D:D 200 bucks for new springs and plates...... Oh well, I guess it was coming up to time to do it anyway.

But the flat slide carb has def. made it "crisper". It's a bolt on mod too. But the thing that really made a difference was goldvalves and new springs in the front along with new springs and rebuild for the rear shocks. Now my 2000 wr360 is much easier to ride but it sure is a hoot to stay with the newer bikes on trail rides... Especially the KTM's...... :D

Never thought of changing to a flatside, was it easy to jet ?

I am not expecting miracles for the pipe, it is just the stocker is that thin i have to get it welded every other ride. Plus nothing looks better on a 2T than a good pipe !

Mines as fast as my mates 79 rocket, just a complete lack of bottom end - unless it is screaming you get nowhere. It's good fun to ride, but i can't get it out of the gate and that is what is killing me.

What gearing do you run ? I am on 11 /52, going to try 12 / 56 next time.

Nah the jetting was easy. Just jet the same as the 85 250 Husky factory specs. As for gearing... Crikey.... I'll have to go look but I'm 95% sure it's 13/53.

As for legality, things are a little more relaxed here in Australia. Mostly we are just happy to see the old bikes out there! The club I race with doesn't even record times. Just have fun!!

"Back in the day" there was a lot of discussion that the 83 250 WR cylinder had a lot more bottom end and a broader power curve than the "all top end" CR cylinder. I've never ridden the 83 CR, but my WR has great power, all stock. Might be something to consider.

That may be a good choice, too, but my 83 WR is nice in its own right. In general I think they ported the WR's for broader power, and you don't need nearly the rev or peak HP that an expert MX'er wants.

Hey Bultaco- you should give him a shock silencer too,so people could use other [stock,Answer, ect]silencers with the pipe.

Hey Frog, I gave him the stock one and the VI one also.

I might look out for an 83 / 84 WR barrel etc, as mine needs a new piston, rebore, con rod kit etc

Over in the UK the championship I run in is not bothered about carbs etc so might try the flatside as well.

I assume it is a straight swap from the CR to WR barrel etc ?

Cheers

I love the flatslide as well , runs crisper and starts easier at least to me , especially on the big-bores. And for local no one cares just as long as we're having fun but just wanted to give a heads up that AHRMA will gig you on it.

Another carb to consider is the Keihin PWK flat slide, 38 or 39mm. I dropped one right onto my 430 with no mods other than the correct cable.

I don't see why it won't go onto the 250 just as easily, considering that the stock Mikuni's are essentially identical.
