• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi, does anyone know the stock float height and where it is measured.
I was trying to get my jetting cleared up," very rich blubber on the bottem", and finally got the air screw to respond with a 30 pilot at 2 turns out.
This seemed a big drop from the 45 at around 1000 feet and 80*f on a new top end.
It did run much cleaner. also had to run the clip at 2 down on a 6dh3.
The mid and top pull pretty clean.

I set the float so it's level, on my 430CR (i'm in NJ). Here's
what i run, mine was the same way :
2.0 slide
50 pliot
340 main
1 turn on air screw

Bike runs awesome now , i'm at see level, but 1000 ft not much

This has to be a typing error. Depending on premix ratio, altitude and temperature, the Husqvarna 430 will run somewhere between a 380 and 440 main jet. I run a 430 in Winter and a 420 in Summer. Premix = 32:1 sealevel to 3K', 60 - 110 F. I move the jet needle one position leaner in the summer too. (above about 90F)
I am aware that there are people who run richer main jets, but with the stock Q-8 needle jet and the 6DH3 needle jet set at the stock clip position. You are not flowing on the main jet at WOT. You can put a 500 main in and it will run the same.:excuseme:

The 340 main is NOT a typo, my needle clip is set all the way to the top, leanest. i also run 32:1 -Golden Spectro, & i get 3 & 4 gear wheelies
& usually have no problem getting the hole shot in the NY state MX (vintage class)

I started with the stock 82 430CR Husky 38mm carb settings & It ran blubber, i had a 430 main in it & it ran like crap

We tried a bunch of different jets & setting & what i've written is what works on my bike & at sea level :applause:

Bike starts easy & runs great.

I never replied to the float height question, So I would like to concur with setting the float height at level. I set mine slightly lean from there, but level is the place to start.
Regarding Ruwfo's the main jet size. (and sorry for hijacking the thread) My first desire was to have access to the motor so I could tear it apart and discover why it runs so rich. Just me, but I guess that is not practical.
I did think of some possible causes that I will share.
Reed valve motors run rich if the reeds are not sealing properly. This is due to the double charging that occurs when the air is pumped back and forth across the carburetor by the air intake flow and motor back pulse.
My other thought is to ask if the needle jet and jet needle are original? They wear over time and will also cause a rich mixture.

That is all I came up with. Can't help but be intrigued.

I checked my float and it was higher than level, i also went to slightly lower.
My reeds were tight with no gaps.
Under close scrunity i saw a good wear mark on the needle about a 1/4" long all the way thru the coating, at about 1/8 throttle, the mark was just coming out of the top of the needle jet.
So i will have to get a needle and needle jet before i go any further.
Also i have to look into fuel tank issues, as i have not seen any leaking out and havn't noticed any coming out the overflow hose's of the carb but it went thru a tank in about 20 minutes!
It cant be burning it so it must be going somewhere.
My jets with this carb so far are 440,45,R4,6DH3,2.0,32:1 at 1200feet New bore 1st over

Other than being a 1981 model, our bikes are the same.
My jets before porting and installing the UFO and Mossbarger were:

Pilot 40
Throttle valve 2.5
Needle jet Q8 -166
Jet Needle 6DH3-4 (Sometimes clip-5 depending on temp. and alt.)
Main jet 410

32:1 and 1st over.
I thought the R-4 was used on the 250 and not the 430? Could be wrong.
