• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'71 400 Issues/Restoration

Husqvarna
AA Class
I decided to just consolidate so I am just gonna refer to my posts as '71 400 issues..don't wanna call them problems.

Anyway, had the frame already & received the engine this week.
Used sandpaper & ruffed up the mounting points on the frame & engine, as well as the mounting bracket on the frame for the ignition coil to remove some of the new paint..Got the engine in, mounted the ignition coil & no spark.
Where should I begin to troubleshoot this?

thanks in advance.

Mike

you have to do more then rough up the points,,
i ground the pain off exposing the metal, same thing with the area were the coil mounts.
all your grounds have to be on bare metal.

Yep Yep.."Rev"... sanded down to bare metal on the engine top front mount & frame,
engine rear bottom & Frame, & frame for ignition coil..
Ohm'd coil its; 4.88...with plug cap on HT wire..

Right now checking for spark..

also this is a newly rebuilt engine & I'm also using 2 stroke oil in the bore to lube as I 'crank'...don't want any 'scoring'..

well, long story short..the paint on the jug is the problem, as I held the plug against the jug, It wasn't grounding..
geesh!..

LMAo..yea I feel like a real horse's hind 1/4...
I make sure the coil mount has its paint removed..use star washers to 'bite' the frame for the coil etc...

I found out because I had a small chip in the paint from the place I put the spark plug..I noticed it sparked after I had chipped the paint...
Now I need touch up...LOL

Looking source(s) for the 4 engine mounting bolts, and the one bolt for the kick starter.
for a 71' 400 (MI Frame)

New would be preferred.

yea know, i have boxes of Husky bolts and parts...if you PM me, ill give you my number, you can come over and get what you need....

LOL......ok..
I hate to be a PIA.....

I am getting use to this site I may need to ask mods to move this to 'vintage restorations'

some progress

finally got around to getting some photos on here to show the progress.
Couldn't resist, had to lean the wheels up against her to get more 'visual' of wheels etc...

Mike!

Great pics. Glad to see the 400 Restoration in here. Looks like a top notch job so far.

Who did your motor rebuild? or was it you?

Thank you "T"

John LeFevre did the engine..
well for that matter the bike while I assemble..
(I had Woody's wheel works true up the rims)

I will post more photos, I'm that person who afterward says 'wish I would have taken photos of that (insert experience; bigfoot, UFO, vacation,.. Husky 400 restoration)...
LOL...

more progress

ok....I'm not claiming to be a national geographic photographer..(lol I suck)
But here's a few of the small parts that have been restored and not on the bike yet.. The exhaust, (tried to fit it all) & handlebars (magura grips etc)...the front fender/flap & bracket (red nyloc nuts & correct bolts) ... seat re-upholestered.
decided to take the exhaust outside & try to get better angle..I failed

side note

Just a side note..I am kinda 'refreshing' a Bultaco Alpina..(not restoring)
I had the exhaust ceramic coated..had it on the bike & was running, then decided to do seals in it!
but the coating does help in the radiant heat.
the finish is satin black...

this is just a FYI..

Pics are worth 1000 words, especially detail pics... yours don't suck. They are quite good in fact. Keep up the great work!

I like how the bars shine!!!

My buddy in Canada does some freelance Nat Geo work... every now and then he has a pic that sucks... then again they don't buy it !:D:D:D
