• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I am going to be restoring this in the very near future.

my question is, from the factory was the inner rear fender one of these aluminium jobs?

or was it one of these painted plastic fenders?

From what i can find out from my research they were the painted plastic ones, but i've been wrong hundreds of time before!
If someone could please confirm 100% one way or the other i would be forever eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.

For 1971 the original inner fender was alloy that was painted to match the frame color. There was also a disclaimer sticker that was applied where it could be seen on the right side. I made some for my 71 400 resto last year. Let me know if you need any help with parts or such. My email is nortonguitar@gmail.com -Taylor

Thanks for the info Taylor, i appreciate it. Will be in touch if i need anything. Nathan

sure doesnt look like it will need much restoring! that thing is clean!!

it is in pretty good condition, the motor has had a full rebuild and has that much compression, i can hardly kick it over, so the motor will be put aside while the frame and swing arm are painted and the wheels are rebuilt.

I need a set of akront rims as these ones have quite a few gouges in them that are pretty bad, i also need a new cable for the 8 speed selector and the straps that hold the air bell in place, other than those things i pretty much have everything i need to do the resto

I sent a spare tank over to the U.S to be restored for my bike, i got sent photos of the almost finished tank today but i don't think it's correct, can the Cafehusky experts have a look at the pictures and tell me if this tank is right or not.
The tank was to badly rusted inside to be re-chromed so the side panels are painted, which i don't have to much of an issue with.
To me the side panels look too big, the word Husqvarna goes around the curve at the front of the tank, and the 400 Cross decal should be at the front of the tank not next to the side panel.

Maybe i'm wrong, hopefully i am, can someone either 100% tell me I'm wrong, or the tanks fine and i don't know what i'm talking about.

Sorry for your loss. Nearly every tank I have let someone else paint, and use their decals on, has come up horribly wrong. Here are my own waterslide decals on my restored 1971 Husqvarna Cross. Look at the "0" in 400 and the "O" in Cross, they are the same font, as per original decals. Nobody makes them right, so I had to do it to keep sane on my restos.IMG_0860.JPGIMG_1426.JPG Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the reply Taylor, I really appreciate your offer of help, maybe the best thing for me to do is to get them to buy some of the decals that you have for sale on your website.

The positive thing is that they've gotten back to me and said they will make the necessary changes to the tank.
