Sorry, been away from the computer for a while. Yes, you cut the stock exhaust just in front of the O2 sensor hole. So you no longer have the O2 hole with the plug in it. The Fmf pipe from a 2008 RMZ450 is just a hair smaller diameter where in meets up to the stock pipe you cut. then the FMF pipe get fatter as it enters the actuall muffler (lots of flow!!). i bought an 1 7/8 peice of exhaust for $8 at canadian tire. i found i needed to make a 4inch connecting piece from stock pipe to FMF pipe. i needed to put about a 15degree bend in this connecting pipe to bring the FMF pipe up about 3inches at the back so it would perfectly bolt into the mounting hole on subframe. i bent the connecting pipe by putting a small ripple (or crease) in the pipe with ocy/acetelean torch. you just make a red hot line across the pipe and pull on it and it ripples over. you could probably leave the connecting pipe straight, but you will need to reef up on the fmf muffler to get the bolt in. i didn't like that. takes a few hours of jacking around if you have everything. you use 2 stock exhaust clamps from stock set-up and u slot the edges of the connecting pipe so it will clamp down and bite the stock and fmf pipe. use red-high temp silicon on the fmf side cause its a touch loose, but tightens up just fine.
the fmf muffler rides close to rear tire and i noticed that you can really only run a 120 or maybe 130 wide tire. fine with me...i have a couple 120/100-18 tires to burn off. i think a dunlope 606 (130 wide) will fit. but i need to measure my buddies 630 with his dunlope 606.
$460 got me a single FMF powercore pipe and JD power surge tuner. rode all day yesterday. big friggin' rips!!! i did ride the bike with just the fmf pipe and no JD power surge...and i did notice a difference...the bike pulled harder for sure. I'm stoked!! set-up is good enough for me. its light. it flows great. my buddy has the dual Leo Vince slip ons and the JD power surge tuner on his 630, and my bike with FMF pulls just a bit harder. little more grunt.
summary.... i love it. if you need your bike to looked perfect with nothing b0-jacked this is not for. this not bill's set-up. this is my own and bill's may be better or different? thisis louder that stock, but not annoying. there is also an fmf Q4 (quite series pipe) but it is $50 more. i like quite bikes and i would never ride a supercross 4stroke with a modified pipe...this set-up is not that loud. the second half of your stock heat shield (the long piece) doesn''t really fit proper, but you can make something, bend the stock heat shield or by a straigh generic heat shield like Bill supplies.
