    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

610 only starts with clutch in

hi guys. uk based newbie motard rider here! been riding a while and have moved to a SM for the first time. loving it! they seem to prefer sideways movement rather than going in a straight line which is exactly why i bought it so perfect! got a 2008 610 and have some real newbie questions about the 610 so please bear with me...! be great if you can help me out...

have noticed i can only start the bike with the clutch in, even in neutral. is this normal? i'm sure it wasn't like this when i bought it.

the choke lever - the manual says (in a broken english way) that as soon as bike is idling to return it to the off position. is it a standard choke? does it matter if you leave it on for 30 seconds? this is my first fuel injected bike!

having trouble finding exhausts for it actually in the uk. all the links i'm finding on google go to the states or europe. anyone know a uk stockists for aftermarket parts. the husky sport site sells em but they're big £££!

cheers fellas. looking forward to finding more out about the bike. and also getting the lamda sensor off and set up on a dyno. def feels like there's some unleashed power somewhere. is fitting a power commander to these overkill?

I have the safe question about my 2008 TE610. The manual sounds like you can start it without the clutch pulled in so long as it is in neutral. Mine also requires the clutch to be pulled in to start. Seems to contradict the owners manual.
 
Yes for clutch pulled to start the 08, choke is standard and if you want to save some money you can uncork your own pipe for about $50 and it'll probably do the same job as the $300 aftermarket ones
 
sooooo my husky no longer requires the clutch lever to be held in to start it! i thought it didn't when i first got it. then it did for a bit, now it doesn't! any ideas? i thought it might be coz i'm now using the choke lever at start up but this morning i purposely didn't use the choke and it turned over without the clutch lever in... is this one of those famous italian motorcycle manufacturer anomalies...?!
 
anyone else had/have this problem? should i look for a fuse or a switch that may have wobbled loose? help!
 
If it starts with the clutch pulled but not with the clutch out in neutral I would suspect the neutral safety switch is intermittent. Bike thinks it is in gear and you aren't pulling the clutch. If you pull the countershaft sprocket cover off you can see the cover of the neutral safety switch - it is a small round black plastic cover with the husky logo on it.
 
As far as I'm aware the 08 should require the clutch to be pulled when starting. Mine used to do that but now (after a cut out when changing down to 1st rolling up to traffic) it doesn't do it. Think I'll pop the tank off to trace the wire coming from the clutch lever housing. Dunno why after a stall it'd stop working though :/
 
Usually with a switch like that, if it fails, the switch at the lever is sticking. A bit of wd40 has fixed up a similar problem for me in the past on brake switches.
 
me again :D

took the switch apart from the clutch lever - seemed ok. tried starting the bike by pushing the switch down and then leaving it sticking out - fired both times. made me realise the fault must be at the other end so traced that behind the headlight (husqvarna's electrics aren't a patch on honda's ;)) and unplugged and replugged the connector. now works as intended! somehow the connector must have slightly pulled apart when it stalled out that time.

anyway thought i'd post my result in case another SM newb comes along with a similar question!
