  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

511 high idling?

I have had my 511 smr for just over 6 weeks now and i had the first service about a week ago, had my akrapovic fitted too but ever since this has been done the bike idles high after i come down from high - ish revs and it will stay high for a good 5 or so seconds even when i pull up at a set of lights, bike has got 480 miles on it, the resistor(little black plug) is fitted to it aswel, dealer told me to fit this. Anyone else have the same problem or is it normal?

I have noticed it is alot different to the restricted form because the engine braking was ridiculus, i do like it just it seems weird to sit at a high idle when i pull to a stop? This is my first FI supermoto though so its all new.

Juat i dont wana worry everytime i ride it like i did on my ktm 450, other then that i love the bike, is there any other little things that i should no? And also does yours (if you have one) chuck out the excess oil? I've been told its normal im just wondering what other riders have done about it.

Keep the oil level in the bottom half of the sight and make sure not to overoil the air filter ... another source of oil dripping on the head.

Is that brass screw on the left side of the bike, as if your sitting on it? and has anyone made a catch tank yet, my dealer said on his TE511 race bike they just run it to the ground, but that's not good on the road.

Yes on the screw (it is about the size of a us dime) and I have no knowledge of any catch tanks but I dont have any oil blow/drip if I keep the level correct and the filter properly oiled.

I have a TE511 with 1900 miles on it. It will blow oil when it is over filled. check it int he sight glass when the bike is at full operation temp.

Its just i don't want to have any oil over my rear tyre, the mechanic at my dealer has told me to put 800-900ml of oil instead of the stated 1100ml i think.

The 511 is my third FI supermoto and my fourth FI bike and none of the other ones did this. I never had any problems with the engine braking on the others. I am not a fan of the high idle but unless someone figures out how to alter it, I will have to live with it.

The Aprilia SXV is also sensitive to over filling the oil. The way we got around that was to use a calibrated cylinder to fill the oil level very precisely. After a couple of oil changes you will know exactly how much oil to put into the bike and where that amount shows up on the sight glass.

I'm not sure I would reduce the oil amount by 300 mls. If the recommended amount is 1100 mls, start with a litre at least. Then try 1050 mls. The problem with greatly reducing the amount of oil is that such a small amount of oil gets circulated through the motor more often and thus it breaks down quicker and so will need to be changed more often and these bikes need to have their oil changed often enough without shortening that interval.

That's what i was thinking, im going to run the 800-900ml that dealer put in see where that gets me, if not im going to have to a few friends to fabricate some sort of catch tank.
