  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

511 countershaft sprocket

Gday guys, im going to drop the rear sprocket size on my 449 and was just wondering if it was necessary to change to chain length at all? Also, how are people finding the 40 tooth sprocket? cheers

I have a 40 and my 511 will do 65 on the highway great, but really steep uphills need a lot of speed to keep going in 1st and engine braking is out of the question now.

I run 13/51 for single track, dirt only, small road sections. Road running 13/40. Works fine.

James - how does the 13/51 do for you? I am only 20 miles south of you - so we probably hit allot of the same stuff. I am pretty happy with 14/51 now, but would like to spend more time in 2nd as opposed to first. On smooth 18 mph single, I would like to stay away from first except as a bailout or getting underway.

My only fear in doing so is that we can jump on the highway every now and then for 1-5 mile runs to get to another section of the first and we do run 60 for short bursts. Is the 13/51 still capable of that?

Just came back from a ride. 13/51. It is a little much for 60 steady I think, when running this gearing, I usually putt
along at 45/50 mph on 2 lane, with burst up to 70 plus. I have no idea what RPM its turning, I never take the interstate
so its fine for me. You should come and ride sometime. I usually ride at splinter creek, in fosterburg.

I just put a 16 tooth front on mine along with the stock rear. It didn't seem to change slow speed much but it did help to bring the rpm down at cruising speed a lot. It's really close to the swingarm so I had to trim a little off the front of the chain slider and the chain is pretty close to where the two case saver bolts go. But I could still power wheelie in 4th so I'm happy with it. The fastest I had been with it in stock gearing was 103 and I didn't get to see what I could get out of it yesterday before I broke or bent a valve or something, so to be continued...

Oh here's the sprocket I got: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390647710765?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
