  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi Scotty,
As per the parts catelogue its either 13, 14 or 15.
If you are looking for speed there is plenty of scope to go smaller on the rear.

If you go to the 15 then your chain will last a little longer. Sam511 is correct with chainging the rear sprocket. On my 449 my race gearing is 15 front 50 rear. For highway riding id go 47 rear and 15 front. Every one tooth on the front adds about 3mph. Running a 47 rear the bike would be about 5mph faster on the highway.

Hi Spud The SMR 511 comes standard with 15 / 43, I've already taken 2 teeth off the back and will have to go down another 1 or 2. If I could have gone up 1 on the front it would have given me more options. I don't know of any other manufacturer who gears their bikes with the biggest front sprocket as standard, normally you can go up or down 1 or 2****************************************!!

Hi Scotty,
15/43 gearing sounds awfully long to me. I gather you are chasing speed rather than acceleration.
My TE511 dirt bike has standard 15/51 and is still good for over 140 Km/Hr.

I've put the standard SMR511 gearing on http://www.gearingcommander.com/
just enter Husqvarna SM R511 2011 in the pull downs at the top of the page and click load gearing
There are 3 set up all currently the same, just change the current or stock version to what you want and the new gear speed per gear/rpm ect will come up
Hope this helps

My 449 should rev to 10700rpm and if i have 15 front, 48 rear top speed will be 100mph. Thats fast enough for me and will allow for a wider gap between the gears.

Doug Thanks for that info, it will save a lot of guess work in future.
Sam I'm not looking for a lot more top end (I've got an R1 for that) I just think the bike is working too hard at 70mph. It still has plenty of go with 15/41 so I'll try a 40, that will be about 6500 revs @ 70mph

Scotty

Hi scotty, did you ever end up going with a 40 tooth? I'm considering doing the same and I'm curious how you found it. Also, any idea where I can buy a 40 tooth sprocket for my 511?

The 40 tooth rear works fine on the road, still enough go and you can cruise @ 70 without feeling you are killing the motor. Anybody who's bike vibrates through the seat should try to slip a bit of paper between the exhaust (in front of the frame mounting bracket) I did and there was no clearance. The exhaust was hitting the frame. I put an Akra on with the same results, rather than try to mod the frame mount I put a slight clearance dent in the pipe, problem cured. Scotty

Any suggestion for manufacturers of a 40 tooth sprocket that will fit? From looking at the husky parts catalog all huskys 00 through current have same fit. But searching the internet the only place I can find a 40 tooth for a husky is the "SM Factory" sprockets from Motostrano.

Awesome Tinken. Thanks!
I think I might go ahead and get the 36T steel sprocket for $39, and either a 39 or 40T stealth sprocket and try them both out.
Thanks again!

did anyone ever find a small rear sprocket for their 449/511? I'm looking for a 39 or 40 tooth rear. neither is available at supersprox. i tried drive systems usa where I bought my 45 tooth rear a few months ago but they have nothing that small available right now. I have been searching and searching and found nothing.

Yes, I have a 40 tooth Husqvarna unit from my dealer. and they had another one hanging there last week...

You may have to call Supersprox, they do have one down to 36 teeth on the website. The 511 can push that much wind, no problem, but will make gearing kind of high in the dirt until my transmission mod is released. For testing purposes, I got my 511 to 115 and Randy went to 120 mph.
