  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

511 and 310

Bill let me spend a few minutes on a TE511 and and TE310 on Saturday. The 310 has a solid powerband and nice punch and reminds me very much of riding my WR300, but with a 4 stroke powerband.

The 511 is something a bit different, and I think may be a significant departure from what we are used to riding. The powerband is what one would expect with all the benefits of excellent throttle response from the FI engine. With the soft map plug in it is almost docile, but switching to the race map wakes it right up. Strong from top to bottom. I would say it will run with a 450 Honda, no problem and has much better throttle response.

What I found special about the 511 was the chassis; when you dial on the throttle it just goes, no drama, no compression of the rear end, just immediate forward motion .. same goes for coming out of a corner (on pavement,no less), the rear doesnt try to step out, the front doesnt try to push, you just hold your line and accelerate. I think this chassis will make the average rider a better rider.

My short list for a new bike just got much shorter.

I was told the 2011 450's and 511's do hook up well but will be more difficult to bunny hop due to the type of suspension.

Given the way it acts I think that would be true. I used to bunny hop my RM125 in 1974, but it isnt something I do on a modern long travel bike anyway. I do think expert riders can exploit a regular chassis and they wont likely benefit from this arrangement, but Im not that kind of rider anymore :-)

I was on a Te449 following Nick Burson back to the cottage at warp speed when I saw him bunny hop a small wash out in the trail so I did the same ,both of us ridiing the same thing. The Te has soft springs but that helped hop it.its a good thing it bunny hopped or I would have made my butt big time,it might be a bit different trying to clear a doulble at a MX track though.

Yes, my brother has a foot of snow in his yard on the south side of Bend. But it will be decent riding weather again soon (I hope)

Transmission? Cant say I noticed it riding in my high top tennis shoes (Bill has incriminating pictures).
