• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

510 service facts needed

Nice score! where did you find that in Oz!??
Cam chain adjustment - yes by feel, undo nut and allen screw, adjust and and retighten.

Maico 81 airfilters fit
Bike will generally only backfire if you try to start it with the throttle open,(and it wont start anyway) but then a singed airfilter is not uncommon..but for piece of mind..

I use full synthetic, lucas oil is well priced in oz. im paying $35 /4litres
check out dellorto uk for a slide, jets etc. you will be pleasantly surprize(d) at price & postage..

I recently finished a L/C bike. Its sooo much easier to start than the a/c bike... the revised clutch and idler gear spin the motor so much better..
the ultimate a/c would have the l/c bottom end like Michel suggests.

the bike has been hiding in a shed for years cos the 3rd owner was left in the scrub when it stopped and he couldn't start it. it was only out of fuel! so he spat it parked it up and left it till the guy I got it from found it and grabbed it. he parked it up as well.

I believe (and yet to confirm this) it was used by Husky Imports team in the 84 a4de and then sold to someone who did mainly road miles on it.

im still deciding what to do with it...wether to leave as is as a time capsule and just make sure it mechanically right or chuck all the running gear and plastics in a box and make a good vinduro bike....id like a maroon alloy tank and black sidecovers with a couple of mufflers like yours!!

couple of nice scooters you've got there all right. nice chain guard's, did you make them?

beaut story.. got to love that theyre a bit tricky to start! mine was a flogged out wreck which I had to get another head for..
chain guards... theyre PVC covers which are wanted now by MA (motorcycling Australia) if youre racing, the photo was taken after the post classic vmx nationals at Toowoomba earlier this year . I did make the mufflers though. the tank is a Clarke plastic job..

I don't think the 510 would be anywhere as nice as a wr 400 for vinduro..as the motor is pretty strong off the bottom so not great for tight stuff.. although there is a cam still available which the Shearer bros. used for A4DE on their bikes which is softer off the bottom and more top end punch.

its a camel c/w the 400 but it wont be ridden in 400 territory that's for sure... open rides where that right wrist will make pure sounds....

Ha!yes nothing matches the sound! I have a totally abused and flogged 86 wr400 in the corner of the shed which amazingly still runs, but im too scared to touch it... (too many cans of worms..)have been slowly accumulating parts for it..but will enjoy vinduro'ing it one day..!

@ Surprize, originals in unwrecked state are virtually impossible to find and are usually in display only ownership of sentimental collectors.

Getting it in mechanical perfect running condition will give you a very capable and enjoyable machine. There are many ways of setting a TE up for trailing, vinduro or all out VMX on the same single machine. Its just a matter of time and attention. Yes, the early ones are sometimes difficult to start. Modern replacement ignitions for the older WR 360 with 19mm crankpin can be made to fit the 83/4 early 4Ts with crank case mounted stator as you have. Huge improvement.

For allout championships i still prefer one of my 2Ts, yet this particular 4T is my best toy and allrounder and a crowd favourite at events.
83TE running a complete 86 500TC topend, oiling mod from later 410TE LC, TX ratios (i fit TE clutch basket and crank gear and 13/53 sprockets for Vinduro and mountains). Revalved TX/TC suspension front and rear.
Squirter pump DeLorto makes starting much easier and it rips under acceleration. Some of the Delortos had a plunger which floods the carb like a Bing for starting. That mod can also be made if it was not fitted.
Dual Megaphones which upon fitting proved to be a surprising performance mod as opposed to the stock silencers. It also gives a violent and malicious sound which totally unnerves the opposition particularly when pressing from behind to pass. Probably too loud for noise restricted competition.

starting is good on this baby, a couple of kicks to prime and she fires up. will get my new shed organised and start to have a good look at it in the future. springs in the forks are a bit soft so need to look at better rates and oil. and a new air filter.

Replace crank seal behind flywheel.

Interesting.
Is it common for these to start leaking?
While doing some work on mine recently i noticed a milky sludge leak out when i removed the flywheel cover so it is obviously starting to weep some oil and it mixed with some moisture that appears to have gotten in through the cable entry.
Is it a regular sized seal or a special order?

appears to be simple, undo lock nut, push in adjusting rod till tight then do up locknut...

That's all I did with mine.
But as mentioned previously you can find a manual in the Tech section that will help you out. Well worth it if you haven't done that already
As I am only new to mine I can't offer much more advise than that but i will watch this thread with interest as no doubt i will learn a bit along the way as well.
Very Nice looking bike you have there. Top Find:applause:

I took my 510 out recently for a track day along with my old XR but the motorcross track was so muddy that I just couldn't bring myself to subjecting it to such abuse. I did however take it for a run on the flat track which was awesome fun. Hope to do a vinduro on it later in the year. Just love riding it.
