• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

4th of July at Kennedy Meadows

Well, sorry I missed this one. Great stuff as usual. But your description of "weekend warriors" in camp is one of the main reasons that I try to do get all my time in during the weekdays. I'll be shooting for the second week in August, or the week following the delivery of my toyhauler:banana:, whichever happens first.

We passed the group of ADV'ers on the way to the river out at Monache Meadow. Seems they'd had to take the trails since the jeep road was closed due to a washout. They looked a little tired but they were clearly having a blast. We were changed and in the water by the time they all showed up...

This is Eric, the he-man with the big yellow tent and death-ray lasers...

Ersin, the guy on the KTM 990, filmed almost every mile they rode. Everything he owned was either orange or black or a combo of the two, right down to his orange camera and orange t-shirt. I gave him a good-natured hard time about his yellow Live Strong bracelet not matching and throwing the whole look off so he hid it under his black and orange gloves...

This is Bob. He's not much taller than me, if at all. Say what you want about KLR's, but he's the only one that rode through the rock garden pictured above. He was out front and missed the sign that spelled "Bob ->" in tree limbs. He went <- instead. He had no problems whatsoever...other than enduring the usual outcome of being short...

Eric and I railed Albanita Trail (the whole brutally rocky thing and I passed Big 4-stroke Guy in the nastiest section :applause:) to Beach Trail and pulled into camp with 60 miles on the odo. Well, that's not entirely true...I walked the last 2/10 of a mile, as I ran out of gas right before camp, so technically I walked into camp with 60 miles on the odo :D I guess I know how far I can go on a tank now

Last day coming up tomorrow:)

Just opened this today, what a small world/coincidence that DB has a write up about Adventure bikes...4 of them, most noted in your thread...the only one missign is the Yamaha whatever...cool stuff...great RR!

last time i rode KM was on an air cooled Maico...

excellent report as usual and yes we are all jealous.

Hey Tammi, you're in our favorite spot. You guys were there with in 2003, big group, had the motorhome up there.
We are going up Aug 11-14, join us if you can. I think Jeff Wallace is coming along.
Following weekend the ADVRider group has about 50 riders going.

PM'd you on your current address and to update our yahoo group.

Nice report and good pics. That bridge over the meadow is a bit much, eh? Reminds me of the concrete bridge they put in at Deep Creek in Big Bear.

Sorry, I know it's bad message board form to just be a newb at the site and ask for a location, but I'm planning a Jeep / camping trip with the kids to Monache in August and that's obviously not looking so good - I was wondering where this spot is at? :

Also, is it campable right at the pad? Just trying to make sure the kids have a great camping trip and this definitely looks like a cool spot to be if Monache's not available. GPS coords would be great, if available..

Thanks in advance and I apologize again for the poor message board etiquette.

No worries, we are a laid back and helpful group.

Someone will probably give you an answer soon, I've never been there.

:)

That pad is at one of the sites in Troy Meadows Overflow. All of them are good back there. Another of our favorites is just south of there, a big circle with a long drive and a canopy of trees. Really nice if it's hot up there.

We are planning to be up Aug 11-14, will camp at Troy.

We got snow in July a couple of years ago. ;)

Here we are at that site in 2003:

Gosh that was a long time ago now...I was riding a GasGas 250, it had a plate! I shoulda never sold that thing.

Hey, very cool, a meteor shower!!

We were to Monache by jeep in '05. Here's flyfishing for golden trout on the kern right at the edge of Golden Trout Wilderness.

Sorry Tam, didn't mean to hijack your cool RR thread. :busted:

Oh Yeah, loved the pics. I will be coming to california next week, but, no biking....darn, have to welcome the baby into the world from daughter #1. Thanks for all these great pics and stories.

Great report again woodsy, I have not been here lately but still riding. The SM610 has both sets of shoes now like I wanted.
