• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 4CS Issues

So I have about 40 hours on my 2015 TE300. I took it to Moab and during the trip the suspension starting acting clunky and stiff. So when I got home I thought that I would pull the forks apart, change the oil, and add some new springs. The fork cap was totally loose from the damper rod, and they had a bunch of water mixed in the oil. I flushed everything out the best I could without dismantling everything and put it back together. I went out for a ride yesterday in the pouring rain. So I hand washed the bike and pulled it apart again. The forks have water in both of them again. I also found that the shim stack on the bottom of the dampening rod was super loose and making a weird clicking sound when the suspension changed direction. The inside of the fork looks dinged up and the fork cap threads are a bit damaged. I put everything back together and I think I'll ship them off this week for repair as I am ready to put these in the bin. Anyone else have water in their forks? I have heard terrible things from people about these forks but this seems a bit crazy.

Sounds less like a 4cs issue and just a set that was just not put together right.... that another reason I ride my bike 2-3 times and tear it all the way down and reassemble how I like it done....

Do what you want, take whatever info you get and run with it, but after mucho playing and some serious research and testing I sent mine to ZipTy Racing and they basically reconfigured them to REB on top and Comp at bottom forks.
They are every bit as good as any Enduro fork on the market now, if you ride Moab type stuff this set up will work perfectly. Its the ZipTy Racing 4CS fork mod this is also what at least one AMA hall of fame rider is using and used this past weekend in Tecate (and I did too). PS if you look at all the top tier enduro guys just about none are using 4CS forks they are just too limited. I realize none of this referred to your mentioned mechanical fault issues. This is just an FYI if you want them to perform at the level of other enduro bikes this ZipTy set up is top tier.

Why does KTM stick with and push such a POS fork? At least spec the old open chambers for off road (less expensive, works better, EZ to tune). Fancy new tech must sell even if it is not an improvement. :excuseme:

Graham Jarvis seems to be able to live with them stock. They are quirky though from my experience so far.

"why does KTM stick with and push such a POS fork" ? Simple K........ they own the fork company:D. I'm gonna give ZipTY a shot.

I agree from all I read and heard from friends that have or had both. It's the old "they" know what's best for us and dummies like me say "ok" I'll take one . NOT calling anyone a dummy well except me. I was told by a friend and should have known better and got a bike with the open chamber units.

Have to say-I can't fault my suspension for not finishing the Tecate enduro (250 XC)........it's stock and probably a little on the stiff side, but as my Do-All bike it works pretty good on the trail AND at the track.

No doubt some people can and will get along with the stock set ups. My son is 34, a lot faster than me, and thinks the suspension on my KTM is great. I have it sprung for me at 200 lbs and he's 170 so go figure.

don't listen to internet chatter and bias....you gotta use what works for you. maybe the 4cs out of the box is your magic set up...for me it was harsh and felt like a supercross bike in the technical stuff, Im happy now with the full redo. for many the stock set up may be fine. PS Im enrolled in the Graham school this month, and you guys know me by now. I will straight up ask him about his suspension and another thing his jet set/PV/pipe set up his bike is so clean from straight off idle it kills me!!
