  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 Top End Rebuild Options

G'day fellas.
I've been dreading the day when my bike needs a top end as I know BMW usually charges the hell out of everything and comparing rebuilds on other bikes I know it will be more expensive and time consuming as the engine is ridiculous to work on for space.
First of all has anyone done theirs and to what lengths did you go to?
I'm the type of bloke that if its going to cost me a bit anyway I would rather spend a bit more to go the extra step. I'll be replacing the exhaust valves with stainless for piece of mind.
I was looking into a higher comp ABC piston from Vertex in a 492cc big bore kit. Obviously I know I have to have the bore done etc but anyone thought of doing this? I was told the 511 runs slightly lower compression to the 449 but couldn't find this anywhere. I was hoping to up it from 12:1 to 12.8:1. The vertex piston with rings is much lighter than factory which will let the bike rev cleaner and with the higher compression I would think it would absolutely anihalate a 511 but keep the racier feel of the 449.
It will be ran with a FMF Ti Megabomb header and Ti Factory 4.1 slip on. A JD tuner will be purchased afterwards to confirm with JD jetting my mods.
Any info will be muchly appreciated!

Dreading it too. But then again, at least it's not a KTM. That little attention whore of an engine design was one of the reasons I went with the Husky. I like to ride when I can and wrench when I need.

Where abouts can i find that FMF header and slip on?

Cheers

did you blow it up of have any issues or just rebuild for good measure? In the us the TC449 is 13:1 and the TE511 is 12:1
