  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 to 310 made the move!!

Thanks for all your advice. A difficult choice but were only here once and all that.
pick up 2012 te310 the weekend.
A few questions as I will start the break in period on Saturday and will want as many tips advice as possible as this is my first ever BRAND NEW BIKE!!

Going on atrip with it very soon so short time available to get it sorted.
please advise freely

The TE310 is a great bike. Compared to the 449 is feels a lot liter and has a much closer ratio trans (or at least feels that way) Better for tight woods and flicking around. I prefer the 449/511 as an all around bike but the 310 as a quick handling woods racer / fast trail bike.

IMHO

I think it will be better suited to the events I do in Wales and not as unforgiving as the 449 when the rider gets tired.
What about break in routine? . and suggestions on how long to ride before changing the oil an filter etc.?

If I had the bucks I would have kept the 449 for trail/rally and got the 310 for enduros/h+H.
as you say 449 is a great bike

these motors have been solid. Typical break in and ride it. I do suggest the JD tuners or equvilent on that as the EFI is not near as good as the 449/511 stuff and the JD gets is 80% there. Also replace the plastic L joint under the tank before you break it (you will). Check your engine mounts ever ride or so, especially the front one. Other than that not a ton to do to them other than personalizing it. Oh, you might also pull the fuel pump after a ride or to and clean the filter and stuff. Plastic shavings from the tank manufacturing can destroy an expensive fuel pump. Enjoy.

The JD tuner is an inexpensive way to cover up the horrible Mikuni EFI. You may even want to consider buying the Ibeat software and a connector from Semco. The only thing that has kept me from buying a 310 has been Husky's stubborn insistence in keeping Mikuni EFI on the xtra-light models.

People are raving about the '12 TXC310 with the updated ECU and 12 hole injector. Personally, I think the Mikuni system works just fine. It's that Husqvarna didn't put much time into tuning it properly. But to be fair, that seems to be common with dirt bike manufacturers.

That would be great. My own experience with the pre-2012 systems was tolerable at best. My 2011 TE 449 was the best EFI motorcycle I've ever ridden until I bought my '12 Triumph Tiger with a Keihin system. The 449 was an absolute blast to tune with the JD tuner working overtop the flawless Keihin system. Enough of me hijacking this thread. I hope the 2012 Mikuni system is as good as you say.

my 310 will have the txc set up on it from new. When you say typical break in please detail what that entails as I have never had a BRAND NEW****************************************! bike before.
thanks

The correct answer is TE250 and 511 ;)
<- <- <- <-

As for break in... some variation of....

Run 20-30 mins under light load, moderate RPMs, let cool, repeat a few times
Dont overrev or overheat (lug up hills, etc)

I was about to ask didn't that bike have the 12 port and TXC ECU since it isn't in US. You should be happy after a normal break in, check and reset TPS sometime during break in, mine changed just a bit. As far as a tuner, after I went with 12 port and TXC ECU I was completely happy, Ibeat adjustment was plenty.

The best way to run in a new engine is to push the engine hard from day one. Forget about moderate RPM and moderate riding. Just ride it hard from new. I have been running in new engines for many years using this method with no problems at all.

Next we discuss oil, then tires, then air pressure, then 4T vs 2T.....and when those are cleared up we will move on to politics and religion :)

I have 2 310's in the shed an 09 and a 10, they are used in tight single track stuff in variable weather conditions and so for (touch wood) have been impecable in the fueling department

Nooooo! This isn't Thumpertalk! ;)

Haha good one. Although I've had my share of issues with my TE310, I don't mind sifting through them 'cause the lil thing is sooooooo sweet when it's up and running.

I went from an xlite 310 to te449 racing woodland/field events. The 310 never suited me and even events which are wet rutted the 449 doesnt doyesnt tire me as much as that 310. I should have bought a 2t then that 310 and the 2009/2010 bikes were nicer to ride then the xlite.

i think you can tell a 4 hole vs a 12 hole injestor by the plastic color. My US TE310 is blue and is a 4 hole injector. I think orange is 12 hole. twmtatenrost make sure you do the power kit.
after 100 miles change oil, and adj valves. also check chain tightness, mine ewas so tight from dealer it shifted hard until I added more slack. Congrats on the new ride, I love mine
