  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449 battery upgrade

Just FYI, Shorai battery # LFX14L2-BS12 is a great add on to the 449. I did this upgrade for weight and CCA. For ice season I'm running hand warmers and this battery did very well today even when it was 14 degree out all day. 210CCA and very light. 14AH

Mine would not start the bike a 5 degrees out for an ice race. Just won't crank fast enough for the bike to start. It was fine with a jump. I know 5 degrees is a bit extreme but I ran a three hour endurance race that day and the bike not starting is no longer an option.

Yes the oem yusa ytx7 died , I've got a 011 I bought in 012 and its always had a 6v voltage drop which ended up dropping down to 1v before it wouldn't start I'm surprised it last so long I was just lucky my mate had a kick starter and we swaped battery's would of been a long push he had the same yusa but the bike run like it had never before I don't have anything against the my yusa I think it just sat in the show room to long but very happy with the upgrade !

I'm saving my pennies for an EarthX battery. It's similar to the Shorai except that it will go down to 8 volts instead of 12.6.

How is that better? Lithium type batteries can be damaged if they are forced below nominal voltage. In order to make 12+ volts, it requires three 3.2v cells. For it to drop to 8 volts that means that each cell must be able to drop to 2.6v without permanent damage.

I just went out and checked mine with a volt meter and after sitting for 5 days in the garage at 10 degrees F or so it at 13.47v. I threw my tender on it just to see what it will bring it up to, I'll check it in an hour or so. Acording to the paper work that came with it ideal storage is at 32 degrees F
