  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I'd suggest consolidation of existing threads be made into stickys, and patience be exercised by those who have been around a while. These questions may be old news to many of us, but searching isn't ever as easy as suggested, and blowing people off or giving them a hard time only alienates folks from a good brand and website. If you've read it before, it doesn't take much to click a mouse and move on - just saying.

I am a new guy and have asked a few questions on this forum. Everyone has been super friendly and supportive. Don't judge the whole group by a couple of hard asses. Just saying

Wow. I'm not judging this forum at all. My past experience at F650, yep, judged. Just don't want to see it happen here.

My comment was not directed at you. It was agreeing with your "Many old-timers were real jerks" comment. No disrespect intended.
Plus I consider hard ass a endearing trait most of the time.
 
I started this because we were on a roll there where you could actually click the What's New button and see 2-3 threads on the same subject on the first page.

Im percolating a plan to make some 'white papers' on a couple of models that I will post elsewhere and link to from here (probably in the BMP section where I can exercise some control). With any luck we can summarize all the Tips and Tricks so the next new guy, or anyone else can download a pdf and tape it to their toolbox :) If one of the moderators is inclined they can also stick it to the top of the new 449/511 subsection...
