  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

It appears that the big sale is drawing in lots of new 449 /511 owners. Every day ..new guy..same questions..
Im getting fatigued :-)

We are a friendly, informative and patient bunch...but come on guys, read a couple of the existing threads....please.

Here goes again..
Stalling flameouts?....set TPS..if TE have Zip-Ty or your dealer reflash, its cheap. If TXC or TC add JD Tuner or Power Commander.

Oil in air filter?...keep level below half in siteglass and change often..better yet get the Zip-Ty breather relocator and add a couple hundred ccs.

Now, go read some of that information weve been accumulating for you here the last 3 years.

And, welcome aboard....you just bought a great bike!

I'm one of the new guys asking questions. I do try to do research but honestly some things are hard to find without reading through pages and pages of info. When you are new to the site and maybe new to bikes in general it can be hard to find or even understand what you are reading. I've suggested this before but I think it would be helpful for someone to create a FAQ or sticky of all of the known "issues" or common mods. It would be much easier for us newbs to find what we are looking for and save you guys from answering the same questions over and over.

I agree that the site protocols are part of the issue. Motosportz did a thorough recap a couple weeks ago that should be stickied at the top of a 449/511 subsection IMHO.

And I really dont blame you guys for asking...

No, what you need is a piston return spring. You know, that spring that pushes down on the piston when it get's stuck at the top of the cylinder.
I am one of the new guys. I really appreciate all the info posted on this site. Now don't forget to switch your winter and spring air out of your tires and put in the summer air. It makes all the difference in the world.

Awe man I forgot to change my winter air to summer air....is it too late? Thanks to all who have posted answers to my noobie questions - I really appreciate it.

It can be done for you...simply find a sharp object and run it over. This will facilitate the dumping of that cold winter air.

When making repairs, don't forget to lube your tubes.

Ran into this issue a long time back on F650.com. Many of the old-timers were real jerks about it, IMO. I'd suggest consolidation of existing threads be made into stickys, and patience be exercised by those who have been around a while. These questions may be old news to many of us, but searching isn't ever as easy as suggested, and blowing people off or giving them a hard time only alienates folks from a good brand and website. If you've read it before, it doesn't take much to click a mouse and move on - just saying.

Haha, we totally destroyed the Op's intention. I'll have more time next week and put together a nice thread with all options in my forum with everyone's input and see if I can get Coffee to transfer to the reference section.

The info changes too fast for stickies to be a real use IMO. They are good starting points. Would I have HAD to buy a JD tuner if the bike had a decent map two years ago? Nope but a lot of us did and now there is a cheap update that solves most of the issues the expensive JD was designed to fix. But a search will turn up tons more info on the tuner than the map flash.

I say ask away!

That is true and with the TPS reset in the reference section, I am continually updating it to keep up. It's not an end all, we will still have forum discussions. But it also makes for some nice reading for those who want a simple answer right away.

I dont think the info has changed quickly at all...we went 2 years with the JD as the best value solution before the Zip-Ty upgrade came along. PCV has always been the more thorough and more expensive option. It does require a little active management of the stickies so that when new information comes along we can drop the old version and put in the new.
