  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

449/511 Breather hose mod

That's good, I love AN fittings and hate hose clamps. Sometimes they are a necessary evil, guess I could weld AN fittings to my radiators, but pressure in them never gets over a few pounds now.
I got them because they were lighter than brass and were perfect for my application ! No hose clamps right there anyways :) a 5/8 bit fits perfect in the cap , drilled it deep as I could then shaved the rib off , finished the hole with a dremel , tapped it , lubed the threads with JB weld and tightened.

I tried the anti-flow back valve, worked better without it. Small diameter return tubing works.
Found some cool free flowing check valves for $50, I'm going to test with no check valves, if blow by issues occur then might try running a bottle neck up the exaust line to pressure up the catch can a little so it dumps back to the engine better, will run larger hose to the airbox so less vertical gas flow velocity .

Question:

Let's say you can figure out a way to run 1200-1400 CC's of oil in the 449/511, would you think the additional oil capacity could also make the oil run much cooler?

More oil slapping around is more oil transferring heat into the cases and less friction building heat also less room for casing gasses to circulate so they exit the breather better. Yes

Actually if you read back a few, maybe twelve pages or so you will see that I am currently running 1400cc's. Besides running cooler, the engine has less vibration, makes less klunky noises and is generally quieter.

Def go bright dip, makes the parts look much nicer and is inexpensive.

- Put me down for one of your Ty breathers.

Will do Kelly. We are actually rushing the breather hole mod right now, which gives us a little more time to make fine tuning on the breather bottle. I can tell you that the breather bottle has been designed to work with all exhaust systems including O2 sensors and the Akropovic power bomb which should make Caiman extremely happy. You will be able to open the breather bottle in order to clean dirt and debris from it too.

Also, we have brand new Ty-designed billet shifter levers for the 449's coming, those will be available through Hall's I believe.

Bah! You are definitely not vane enough to ride motard...or not as narcissistic as me! I am only creating a dual exhaust for looks (and hope it does not have negative effect on power.

so it's going on the right side , is there a filter in it and how would the dirt get into it, also does it send back oil to the engine automatic or do you have to manually drain it ?

Right side yes. Depending on what the vent hole is connected to will determine the extent of the debris. Oil will continuously drain back to the engine or it will be allowed to flow upward into the drain back line.
