• 4 Stroke Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Italy - About 1989 to 2014
    TE = 4st Enduro & TC = 4st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Got my wheels for $995 with sprocket, discs and spacer with black rims and red hubs from SoCal Husky. Pimp daddy!

Seal killer - what happened with the airbox? worth doing?
G2 throttle is here, installing it tomorrow, will let you guys know how it is to ride re throttle response, accel etc . . . .

OK - G2 quick turn throttle - increases response by a claimed 10%. Verdict: pretty fucking good.

First of all as a comparison base my bike is 511 SMR, with the akrapovic ti pipe, no other mods, soon to have a JD tuner (awaiting its arrival).

Find it much easier to get the power that I wanted to the wheel with it - Im not sure if its just preference but now that its installed for me to be at max throttle is simply the drop of the wrist with no need to drop the elbow at all - feels like im able to roll on the throttle just as accurately if not more so through the turns - at the start of the twist it doesnt seem like its too much either. Lots easier to get the full throttle position, for power on demand and pulling wheelies either clutch or power in 1st.

Installation was simple, bar end off, switched the throttle tube and a small adjustment to the cables in the throttle body - side note - the internal bolt on the throttle body isnt long enough to compensate for the slack on my bike (pretty sure it will apply to everyone else too) and I dont like a slack uptake, moved both screws to the outside and tightened and it works like a charm, tightened them up and have marked it with chinagraph pencil to test movement at all, rode about 200 kms today with the new throttle - zero movement, easy solution. Great product.
Any questions let me know.

Dan

Wow this thread just fizzled out??? What is the final verdict with the stock TE511 airbox? Leave it alone? Install the TC449 version? Possible DYI mods? Inquiring noobs want to know. LOL
I have a G2 ergo dirt tamer on my 310 and it rocks! Wondering if it will fit a 511? probably is my guess...

Im pretty sure guys have been placing the TC449 lower box with intake horn on their TEs.

I hated that stupid airbox too ! And I have all the hardware you need in the box , never used to replace the whole stock box with a pod filter setup( minus the k&n ) will give it free with purchase of my like new CS sprockets . I have the oem 13,14,15t plus oem chain and stock rear sprocket. $50 shipped ! Pp lol

Barking up wrong tree there, modern day airboxes are way more advanced the XR650 or TE610's. In particular, the airbox design on the 449/511 is very optimized for performance. Of all the things they have modified for factory Dakar bikes, stock airboxes are just fine there and not a choke point. Muffler and header is your first priority, then a tuner if you want to fine tune.

Bunch of SM guys on supermotojunky say the Dyno shows very good results from airbox mods. Bikes have limited space for the airbox and is still a place to gain power from.

Never bothered with the intake horn (no one I know personally has), but the 2012 TC449 airbox lid is a good start, or just holesaw a few 40mm holes in your stock lid and epoxy some mesh over the cut outs.

There are gains in the air box, but replacing with a K&N without retaining the air horn will put you backwards in the gains department. The older TC air horn is smaller than the newer SMR/TE horn. This is because the original throttle body was 42mm instead of 46mm which is huge. That whole down spout tube is tuned to the engine. I think a better option would be to do away with the front lid all together. Replace the foam filter with a K&N box filter and add a retaining mechanism.

When I see the data from the dyno, I will believe it. I will see if I can get mine over for a dyno day here sometime soon and we can talk about it once I have some data. I may snag the air horn and run back to back with the horn and with the silicon tube. Depends how much time I have on the dyno. You don't happen to have a spare one lying around do you? (I mutilated my original when trying to make the K&N work).
