  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC 310 to 501?

nep2012

Husqvarna
A Class
So my 2012 Te310 has problems after 3500 miles it needs a complete top end rebuild and haven't checked the crank out. I was offered 3000 for it as is and was considering getting a FE 501. Love my 310 its nimble rides nice quick for its size but has been causing me problems and I don't know if I want to dump money in it. Dealer told me the style I ride a 501 would suit me better. NJ pine barrens very little single track mostly more 50 mph blasts basically very little tight stuff. A little nervous about the switch a 501 is a big motor. Dealer says it dosen't feel heavy and is actually only a couple pounds heavier than the 310. Any advice.

If someone is offering you 3k and stuff like that is about to go...take it lol

You would probably like a 501 more for what you're doing and it would tear up the sand in jersey :).

Take the money! Running in good conditions TE310 is worth $3000. 501 makes a better 50mph+ bike but it's more then a couple of pounds heavier and feels it compared to the TE,,, well unless your set-up is off. Power wise you can get a G2 throttle tube to softer it out if needed.

No tight stuff in NJ Pine Barrens? Huh? Are you saying there is none or you just don't ride single track? I live on the edge of the state forest and ride there all the time, endless amounts of single track and some of the best you will find on the planet. If you don't ride single track, you should try it and the 501 will work fine in single track. You will never waste your time again on fire cuts and dirt roads.

The G2 throttle tube I got for my FE501 is actually a quicker ratio. Its not the one with all the changeable cams. I did the same thing on my G450X.

It has a bigger cam and it puts the wrist in a more favorable position if you do wick the throttle wide open.

Its called the G2 tamer? Why would you want to slow it's rotation down with regard to throttle opening to soften it up as you say. Holding the throttle with your wrist all the way bent back is bad for the wrist and you are not really to far from being out of control when doing this alone. You would uncomfortably have to reach over the top of the grip and grab a handful only to find out your other arm and wrist is in a completely different position then the position of the wrist holding it while its probably never even wide open? A quicker turn throttle is better as you can let go anytime, with out such exaggerated movements.

That's not alot of miles ... What happened to the top-end and other issues you have with the 310 bike?

Did you gear the bike up any for the faster stuff you are riding?

If anyone told me to purchase A 500cc bike, they would be maybe ~100% wrong ... And 300s are not 500s bikes on about any and all scales .. Consider the source always ....

Timmy, I put a G2 on last year as well. It's called the dirt tamer and it smooths out the off idle which helps while standing Also it's easier on the wrist like you mentioned.

You got it.
Mine is still in a bag, just got 2 pairs of my favorite grips the other day. So I punched the ends out of one set with a piece of sharpened from the inside, not out side thin wall 7/8" 4130 Chromoly tube I made just for this. I'm putting the tapped ends into the bars from Moose racing and the bar end insert will then stay put when I put on the full wrap hand guards. So far I haven't had any problems though. I have folding adjustable levers. I got a few different kinds of guards to try out. Some old, some new. So far the flag guards are alright though, just got a few AZ pinstripes.

The stock grips are as hard as a rock on the riders side. I hope that my BPR Submount and and Scotts Stabilizer with rubber mounted bar riser takes away some of the vibration and harshness off my bad wrist. It shipped from Slavins racing yesterday.

As for my bad left wrist It still has 2 titanium plates and 24 out of 28 screws still in it. I push and pull with it as hard as ever now it just don't bend as far. Too much scar tissue from the screws I took out that were sticking through the other side of the bone. They say it was from some new recent arthritis. I say take out the scalpel and pull them or its going back home hanging on my arm with a bottle of "makers mark". Handy Dandy!

They took them out for free. I had the Xrays that showed them being too long and out side the bone and I could push them through the skin. Can you say "Medical malpractice insurance". Sure you have a new screw driver. I do too, and a high tolerance for pain.

How do you think I just got my new FE 501? My attorney is working on my right shoulder case now with the US Dept. of Labor. Which was dislocated at work, just like my left one was a few years back. He just got paid $4600.00 cash a few weeks ago. He likes me.

Yep,
I agree but my wrist I did riding on my day off and took care of it with minimal problems and it was bad. 78 degrees bend at a right angle towards me. I walked the bike home like that. Even straightened out the left lever and hand guard. I still think that's what did it, the hand guard. Except for the block of 4" thick cement I hit in third gear. I now have in my front flower bed. I went and retrieved in my truck several days later. To remind me. It still has tire marks on it on one corner.

My left shoulder was injured on the job as I favored my untreated right shoulders recent dislocation. Even though I missed time from work from my left wrist injury and had 3 surgeries I worked with a cast and wrist wrap support splint. Even operated heavy equipment on light duty, I did it all. That's when I injured my left shoulder again, Popped it out. That was originally dislocated back in Feb,of 2009 at work and documented. Had to get an attorney, had witnesses and statements to both shoulder dislocations.

I told the DOL they could take a flying F#$( at a rollin Doughnout) but in order for them to treat you properly medically that is. You better be able and ready to take a Rollin F#$( at a flyin donut). There are two ways to look at that donut (doughnut).

You got to tame the bikes horsepower, show a little restraint some times even though my arms are getting stretched from this beast and will end up probably longer but at the same time my shoulders are getting stronger as well riding this beast. It can definitely bite back and hard. slow single track is what I like to do with it so far as it's a workout and it does it well. Even though a smaller bike may do it better. I've never really had any smaller bikes than the Hodaka Super Rat, I had when I was like 12. All others were mostly 400,440, Maico's.

Don't let the soreness and injuries beat you down and let yourself down as well and get up and push yourself through recovery. I look at it like this is my gym equipment and membership card to the local workout studio or fitness club. There is not a physical therapist alive where I have been any way. That could keep up with me (unless he is a healthy dirt rider himself) going up some of the single tracks and ditches I ride and have healed myself on. They would be done and filling out papers for there own associates services. while getting that done they would be filling out a report for me to go see the men in the big white coats at the nut house. Hell YAA!

for the 501

I heard that. I don't have to worry Kelly.

I've never taken a day off on Workers Compensation. Ever. The money the DOL paid me is a "Schedule award". For a 10% percentage of impairment of my shoulder, not a settlement. My previous doctor wrote me off when I said "Adios" at about 25%. So in goes the 1/4 turn throttles.

If my shoulder at this point gets worse at anytime for the rest of my life, regardless what I am doing. even breaking my arm getting money out of my pocket. I get another Impairment rating Doctor to simply look me over, write a new report and they have to pay me again. So although I may appear to be able to do anything and be fit for work. It is also clear that either shoulder could separate or "pop" out again at anytime.

Without continuing treatment and regular MRI's which the DOL sees as not needed nor will they pay me for the travel to these appointments for the rest of my life. Unless an Orthopedic Doctor appears closer to my 50 mile radius travel restriction from the DOL that will accept me as a patient. Which there are none.

I can ride all I want.. I have to monitor myself from injury both at work and while riding, taming my throttle hand has come easy and its the work part that is not so easy. some people I work with come to work like its a spectators sport and watch me do all the work. I need to learn myself to show some restraint from making it worse of course, there is always tomorrow.

It's been a good thing for my healing, riding though.
