  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 300 PISTON

454x

Husqvarna
Pro Class
WHAT BRAND ARE YOU GUYS USING? LOOK'S LIKE VERTEX IS CAST. IS STOCK HUSKY CAST OR FORGED? I PREFER FORGED.

As far as I know the only piston available is the OEM (Vertex) piston, which is a quality piston. The Wiseco Gas Gas 300 piston fits, but doesn't perform well in a stock motor. At least it didn't for me.

It just so happens I have a brand new OEM 300 top end for sale (selling my 300 and dont need it anymore). I also have a super low use GG 300 piston if anyone wants to hot rod their motor. /sales pitch over/

Did you try WOSSNER? I'd call them and see what they can do.

Don't do the GASGAS piston. Nothing but trouble.

PM me if you can't find anything.

WISECO DOESN'T OFFER A PISTON FOR THE 300 WHICH SURPRISES ME AND I'D LIKE TO HAVE A WOSSNER BECAUSE THEY DO ABC SIZES. I HAVE AN EMAIL INTO WOSSNER AWAITING A RESPONSE.

The right way to swap to a domed piston would require reshaping the head's squish area to match the dome. If that's not an available option I'd stick with a flat top.

there must be more to it than that as PC above has built motors, has the best head guy in the Us right here and was still having issues. documented here on CH somewhere.

Oh, definitely! I didn't mean to imply that's the ONLY thing that must be checked when swapping a piston.

Yes, the real issue is around the skirt. PC and others tried the GASGAS piston because it was domed and there isn't enough meat in the stock head to make it work as a full blown race motor with the flat top. But, the GASGAS skirt is designed to run in a case reed motor and the skirt is just wrong for the reed induction cylinder. That's why the race head came about.

Are you running a race head?
I'M CONVERTING FROM 250 TO 300, JUST BOUGHT A CYLINDER,HEAD AND EXHAUST COVER IN THE CLASSIFIEDS FROM RANCHER1 FOR 350.00 I ONLY HAVE TO BUY THE POWER VALVES ,SEALS, AND TOP END. CAN YOU SAY SCORE! THE CYLINDER ALONE IS 880 FROM HUSKY.
