  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Looking for opinions, just did the second oil changes on my 13 te449 and 13 te511. After pulling oil drain plugs both still have quite a bit of super fine junk on the magnets. Not as much as after the first oil change but still there. Second oil change with using the Mobil 1 0w 40, both bikes have about 600/650 miles on them. No big junk on magnets just real fine stuff. Also those 2 damn long filter bolts really suck, both are already starting to round out gotta get new better ones. Update on 511....was running fmf wide open no core, put fmf quiet core in, tps reset, adjusted big brass screw 5 and a quarter turns out from completely closed (matched 449 screw) and flame outs are all gone and it seems to pull harder too. Adjusted chains to where I gave them about 2 fingers of slack on bottom of chain, seems quite a bit tighter than other bikes I've owned but they don't tighten up when you sit on them.

Same exact here. Same problems.

Stock chains are garbage.

I set mine to spec, went on a 50 minute highway ride and it was so tight I couldn't believe it. Loosened it up, rode in the dirt a bit, then it was so loose it was hitting all the guides and rollers.

On the oil stuff, the "fuzz" or sludge is normal. All thumpers I have owned do this. Even a klx250sf little bike did it. I expect it will get less and less with age, then more and more at some point. My smr450 had tons every oil change, and clutch materies friction and metal in the screens. For 3k and never ever gave any problems.

Yeah I was remembering your posts when I posted mine lol. My chain is good to go just tighter than my other bikes. It's not adjusting it self, not yet at least. Was a little worried about fuzz on magnet but oh we'll if she blows she blows...the tps reset and quiet core stopped the back popping on decel and it does pull harder now plus no more flame outs so far. The bike just seems happier now. Gonna get new caps for the long filters horrible designs, gonna check with one of the sponsors on here I think they carry them. Also gonna do gas caps these plastic ones are a pain, plus a little bling won't hurt.

I got the husky special parts gas cap from motoxotica when I was there the other day. Works great uses the stock seal. But can get stuck on still if you really put it in hard.

I am using the stainless scotts oil filter. I plan on cleaning it and screens every two oil changes. I dont see the need to clean everything when im changing the oil so often. No more than 300 miles.

I change my oil about every 300-400 KMs or about half your distance. I change oil filters every second oil change. Probably find no gunk next change.
On the 449 and 511 the chain should not alter tension when you sit on it as it is always on the same axis.
