• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2016 Betas get electronic oil injection.

This subject has been beaten to death on the BRC. Personally I have no use for it, like things simple, and like to run a fairly rich mix with good jetting with excellent results. Fortunately Beta understands both sides as the race models will not have OI at all, and the std models will have the ability to disable it with a switch or mode change on the instrument cluster. Plus I'm sure you can remove it completely to clean things up as I would do. Its undoubtably a step toward compliance as the majority of these bikes are also street registered/ridden in Europe. Its all fine with me as long as its a choice and forced on us, and it doesn't seem to have impacted the MSRP significantly either.

I'm not scared and would love the convenience of OI. I find the hysteria of a failure funny. With modern manufacturing and oils I think it will last nearly forever. I don't worry about pistons, rods, cranks, transmissions, frames, suspension, linkages, triple clamps, water pumps...

To me it's not a matter of being scared of new technology, it's just that if I don't need it I don't want it on the bike. Same with most of the other wiring. If it's not there it can't fail and makes working on the bike easier. There are already too many wires on the bike with the Euro legal lighting system and sound packaging is a challenge. This will add more plus clutter the airbox with an oil tank. 1.2% max oil is indeed 83:1, that's the MAX it will inject. It's interesting that not long ago when the Honda CR250 was still sold the recommended ratio was 32:1. Purely performance / reliability driven. The KTMs and GGs that ran around European streets were recommended at 50-60:1. The PV drain tubes on GGs had to be folded and tied shut for Euro compliance. So, this is totally emissions driven, but it has a bit of a marketing spin on it, which is smart on their part. The fact that Beta is omitting this from the Race bike says it all to me. For a dual sport 2stroke sure it would be convenient if that's a priority to you. Again nice to have the choice.

I'm going the the race version and one reason is it won't have the injector....

Less parts is good for me and mixing gas is not hard... Plus I can mix at what rate I want

I too find the hysteria a little funny, we as human don't really like change especially dirtbike riders!! When Fi can out, many hated it because of the jerkiness of the system, costliness of injectors etc etc but guess what evolution dictates that the system will get better to the point that it was only Beta who just changed to all Fi on their 4t's.
I congratulate Beta for having the balls to invent and release EOi on their 2t's and l hope their EWC team will run the unit as nothing like racing will prove to the mass that this system works...83:1 where did that come from?
As for racers pulling the unit off, you don't take Fi off and replace it with a carb so why, if the EOi is proven, why would you take it off?

To pull up to a servo (gas station for you yanks) and fill up the tank with petrol and add some premix to the task whilst smiling out our 4t brothers will be an instagram (polaroid for us oldies) moment and l for one will wait and see if the unit is reliable and if it is, definitely will be riding a 2t Beta.

Oh, and l sure some company will come up with some sort of unit to monitor and adjust the EOI on the fly.

Again congrats to Beta to have the nuts to release EOi and also Sherco who posted picks of a prototype Fi 2T recently.

as long as the race teams are running the standard set up otherwise defeats the purpose really. if theyre in fact running the EOI i would want to see the standard beta system(unmolested) being used. aftermarket or 'tuned' stock system would concern me somewhat. id imagine ewc riders would be riding r models anyway wouldnt they? personally i dont recall ever being against EFI on the 4ts(think i was actually for it) but was in the same boat as this EOI being i wouldnt want the first model or 2 until all the bugs/kinks are ironed out.

as far as racers removing the system think estarts on both 2 & 4ts/coolant catch bottles/lighting-wiring looms that get removed by a lot of racers to save weight & potential issues/breakdowns. no hysteria here just didnt want some EU roadgoing emissions crap, which i tend to agree is exactly what it is just dressed up to sell to more serious offroaders/race types, forced upon me(glad that it is easily removed or get the R model without it). if the R model had it then id say beta was going in balls n all & was 100% confident in it but seems to me theyre hedging their bets somewhat. honestly im happy premixing as i know what im getting. im all for it for dual sporting/beginner type easy trailriding/emissions standards to keep 2ts being built if thats what it takes & reckon its a great move by beta which will sell bkes for them(provided theres no problems!). id like to know what pierers response was?! cant imagine hed like being 1 upped by some little italian shitshow(im guessing thats what hed call them-completely unfounded)!:applause::thumbsup::cheers::busted::lol::D

dunno where 83:1 came from but man that is lean! if i can manage to scrounge the extra coupla Gs for the r model thats what ill get next year otherwise the base model with system removed is A-OK with me.

sorry to say that the oil injection feature will rule me out of owing a beta, at least for the first couple of models til its proven! ECU/wiring/TPS etc i dont like or need. just a basic old school 2T is all i want. couldnt care less about the smoke coming out the silencer(quite like it!), not premixing(again like it) or how much ill save on 2T oil or how much better they reckon itll run at low revs/idle. not my bag but a good advancement from a small company. pierer will be having kittens:D

ps gold forks look cool are they still sachs?
I don't see the issue, 2T outboard engines have used this forever without issue. The biggest problem I ever saw was people blocking the oil tank vent and the pump pulling a vacuum, which would cause an alarm.
We used to take the oil pumps off the 2T in the 70s and 80s so we could lean out the mix not because of any reliability issues.
BTW I have a new Beta 300 RR Race sitting in the garage. The build quality and engineering is off the charts. Very cool bike.

I'm an old fart that used to ride a 1973/75 KE100 and 175 back in the day and never had a problem with either oil injection system and that was with cheap oils at the time. Looks like a win or take off if you like system to me. Heck I still have a 1984 Suzuki 50 4wheeler that's been through my kids and now the grand kids are still riding it. I think Beta will have things sorted.

yea im sure Beta will have it dialed and it will D/Sing much easier if OI dirtbikes had never left nobody would be freaking out about this outboards and im sure sleds have used it for years

No hysteria....

First I usually don't jump head first into new tech stuff I let the bugs get worked out first.....

Secondly, less is better IMO.... Same reason so many that went 4 st are going back to 2 st.... Less moving parts equals less stuff to maintain and repair if something does happen
