• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2015 FE 350 Swing Arm

covi

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi,

Guys I had a buddy hit me from behind the other day, He also ran his fork legs up the side of my bike. Subsequently he buggered up my brand new swing arm. Pet peeve of mine is a nice shiny new swing arm and now since this has happened It's not the case.

Any thoughts other than the dealer where to purchase one? I live in Vermont.

Thanks in advance.

If not structurally unsound, why not feather out the scrapes and install swingarm graphics to get it looking clean? After all its a dirtbike.

ebay.

and I don't know if a KTM will work but, if so, that would increase your options by a huge factor. either way you're probably talking $100-$200... used. betcha new is off the charts.

but, seriously, how bad is the damage? I agree that the middle areas of swingarms have thin cross sections- but it's not repairable? or is it bent?

I gotta admit I hate when my brand-new baby gets it's first ding- but it's a '15, right?

good luck.

If you can't get it sanded and buffed out nice, it'll make for a good story about iron horses mating in the wild with their riders on board.

In the accessories catalogs they have covers.

Should be able to weld, fill w/ same aluminum, if gouges are deep, then file and sand out.

thanks all, I've thought of most of the suggestions and have come up short on Ebay, sanding and re polish I don't think will be an option (swing arm is textured). I've thought about the aftermarket swing arm protection pieces (black plastic) so the damage would be concealed. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and pay the 620 for the dealer and get a complete swing arm. It will have everything I need for a simple on off assembly.

Actually, $620 is about $200 less than I was guessing. but still... it's a chunk of change for what seems to be (?) a cosmetic issue.

I hope you're not planning on letting your buddy know the cost- might cost you a friend, too. btw, the ebay thing is a long month-or-two search; it's not like there's gonna be scores of husky swingarms around.

good luck once again.

edit: btw, you might be able to get the textured finish to a repair with a light glass-beading (sand blasting, basically)

Maybe see if someone on here is willing to trade plus cash? Mines pretty good. What's the damage look like? I'll see how clean mine is lets swap some pictures. Cheaper than 620 for sure

Thanks again. I know totally cosmetic. This isn't the first time same buddy has messed my stuff up. Two things, my OCD and now when I get on the bike I look down and see it. Reminds me of what could've been avoided. Me to buddy. "What the heck are you thinking"? Him "what do you mean"? Me, "please tell me that you were in the air and couldn't stop". Him "no I was just riding way to close"? Me, "Urgh"!image.jpeg

ok- that's way better than I thought.

You've identified your two problems: you like your stuff in showroom condition; and you have a buddy that's on the opposite end of the spectrum. And the rest of the world is in between, more or less.

You're gonna hafta clue your buddy in about how you feel about your shit, or get a new friend. If you could rein in your OCD that would help obviously; but seeing that picture of your bike (intro thread) I'm kinda assuming that you have compromised as much as your psyche will let you. No big deal, there are many, many, many worse personality tics to have (and I got a couple of 'em myself); so embrace it.

If it helps at all, I absolutely love buying bikes (or anything else) from the meticulous types: their shit is in A-1 shape, and they (sometimes) under-value it; buying from your buddy: not so much.

In my eyes, that gouge isn't worth spending $62 on... let alone $620. If you can't go the sticker route or the plastic protector route- you might be able to get it TIG welded and then sand it with #80 grit (in a straight line), but I doubt it'll turn out good enough for you.

Only you can make the choice about a new swingarm and whether it's worth it (to you). To the rest of the world, you're bike is already beautiful.

good luck with whatever direction you go.

Munn racing has 25% off oem parts right now. You'll need to use a ktmtalk.com screen name to get the discount but it'll save you 130 bucks or so. Food for though

Also, I'm sure someone would buy your swingarm so you'd recoup money there too.

You should be able to take to good tig welding aluminum guy.

Just fill weld and resurface.

Guys that are good at this are boat prop guys.

That looks pretty easy to do. Prob $100.

Like Trenchcoat said. Build you a jig out of 2x4's. Get some 80 grit adhesive backed automotive paper and sand new lines in it after weld ground down and sanded flush.

Your goal is to keep 80 grit paper from moving from each pass so grit stays in line each time.

Guys thanks, cool outlet for my frustration and makes me feel better. Both about my ocd and about the small damage. Cafe Husky rocks. By the way I just bought a new to me boat so swing arm will go on hold until the fall. I'll keep you posted. Check her out. Picking it up in Fla on the 15th.

Funny I've gone down a hand full of times. The latest was last week. Not a scratch on it. Lol. Body is killing me. Ripped the visor of my helmut, thought I went blind (goggles lens full of mud) but bike is mint. I hear you, lol.
