• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 2015 4CS - anyone used Race Tech for work?

I read through all of Terry's posts as well, but clearly I missed where he leaves the forks closed vs the standard RT open conversion.

Very interested in what you find / determine and think of the RT mods.

HR
I just revalved my 4CS fork with Race Tech parts and specs (open chamber conversion). I don't know..... It feels awful loose pushing up and down on it in the shop. Also has more spring noise than before? Going riding tomorrow but I am little scared. I have the G2R valves coming and Terry Hay has offered to help me with his setup- closed chamber style. I will report back.

I should be getting my race tech gold valves and compression bases tomorrow and i am not sure with wich way to go terrys route or open chamber route. Has anyone tried them both? If so what where the differences?

One of the people here on a FE350 did the RT gold valve way first, which improved things, and then got told about Terry's way. He still has the gold valves but went back to closed cartridge as recommended by Terry and he recons Terry's system is better again. He told me the overall feeling is better and damping more consistent, smoother and no bottoming out neither.
I'm going with Terry's system on my FE501.

Just revalved with RT components and went riding today. The settings are WAY off. Fork was better stock. I do not recommend converting to open chamber. I think part of the issue is that their rider ability spec is too broad. It is supposed to cover dirt intermediate/ expert/ a class with their setting. There is a lot of difference between A class and intermediate........ Anyhow the fork sucks big time and I feel like it belongs on an old XR. It is way too active, poor in the corners, divey, harsh, bottoms too easily, and uses too much of the stroke. It is way off on comp, mid, and rebound. I was chasing settings all day and couldn't even get it close. Inconsistent too. It may be made to work for me but I will have to go up the DVS valving chart a bit to make that happen. Going to convert back to a closed chamber with Terry's settings- or maybe even stock. At least with stock it got better the harder I charged, instead of worse. A couple of 'oh crap' moments a ride are better than 'oh crap' all day long. Pretty disappointed. I had way more control with the stock fork in our conditions- even with its shortcomings. A class rider here. Just thankful my constant prayers kept me alive yesterday......

I could keep going, doing R&D with the OC mod, but, nah.....

That's not good Hoov; feel your pain. Look forward to hearing how the Terry set up feels for you. I'm almost positive it's the rout I'm going and I'm far from an a level rider. Good luck. Still say KTM/Husky owes us a 1K rebate for these forks !

I was on this ride and did not even try Mike's bike after hearing nothing but how he disliked it and seeing him wear the adjustors out looking for a suitable setting which was not there. Hope the Terry thing works for you buddy.

KTM pisses me off. how they can ruin an otherwise decent bike with crappy suspension, year after year, is beyond me. This is why I went to YZ250's in the past- I can make the suspension work on them. Middle finger to you KTM/ Husky...

Kramer hated it equally. I can see why, after riding his bike. Felt like our perfectly revalved Zokes....

Hoov, can you post up the RT stacks you used? interested to see how they differ to Terry's stacks

I'm so busy with work and one of my grandkids baseball I haven't even had a chance to make phone calls bowser but I'm gonna.

Bowser,

Here you go- Settings are RL1003, RLX1011, RH143, ML1002, MLX1011, MH142, MVP30, SE30, cl1035, ch159, float .60mm, 1.3mm bleed drilled, .44 springs.

Remember, Terry's settings are based on a closed chamber fork. RT settings are for OC.

Sounds like you just need to go up the chart some..... I always had decent luck with the RT stuff.... Interested in unloading the RT stuff?

You are likely right about going up the chart. I have had GREAT success with RT on my 45 Zokes. I am going back to CC though so if you want my RT compression valves and the RT mid valves I will make you a deal on them. PM me.

You should explore sorting the OC stack first.
