• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC 2015 4CS - anyone used Race Tech for work?

Ive gone through the VERY lengthy 4CS issues thread and while there are mentions about RT, they are mostly on spring rate chart on their web site or how one approach is like or not like the Gold Valves etc.

Has anyone had RT do their forks and if so, what are your thoughts?

Thanx!!

Hope this one stays on track.....

We have RT tech guru (he was RT rep for many top tier riders and racers including AMA hall of famer LR) here in SD that was the RT HQ lead Tech, he remains an RT associate but moved down here and opened a satellite shop. He has a full RT shop and is an authorized RT suspension tuner. He told me that the 4CS mod RT set up is the same type set up as what ZipTy is doing.

Race Tech is our Vintage MX Club season sponsor this year - so there are reasons to consider going that route, if the end result is solid.
that said, keeping the Comp and Rebound on top would be preferable, but then not spending $700 would be as well.

conversion of the WP Four Chamber Fork to an Open Chamber design. Yes, we know this is a significant departure from the stock WP 4CS, however for us, this is an essential modification required to unlock the potential of these forks

Check out Terry Hay's recent posts on KTM talk, he is a RT dealer in Australia but offers a different approach to what is mentioned above of converting them to OC. I will be trying his setup this weekend (currently have a Kreft setup in)

I talked to a local RT guy, and was told it was pretty much what Zip Ty does. Biggest difference is that RT is quite a bit more expensive, $700+ just for the forks. I've had my '14 Berg forks serviced and re-sprung by a local guy who does good work, and I just put a heavier progressive spring on the shock. The forks are still super unpredictable and harsh, but at least don't ride as low, the PDS shock seems fine, for a PDS. I need to send the forks to Ty.

I tried Terry's recommended setup today, it uses RT G2r gold valves and RT base adjusters, everything else is std. Terry (on Ktmtalk) is offering setup advice etc to help you out. He is a RT dealer but differs from what the US guys recommend for these forks.

I was over the moon with mine today, best forks i have ridden ever. My kreft mid valves won't be going back in as this setup is better than the Kreft setup and cheaper

So you loose comp up top then, compression is now on the bottom, rebound on the top of each fork.?

I read most or Terry's posts, he seems to know his stuff down pat....
What kind of riding do you do/terrain?

Did you drill the 1mm bleed on your stock mid? Also, I'm assuming you removed the checks as well? Any con of the RT base adjusters versus the MX Techs? I know the MX Techs have the ability to add shims whereas the RT's only have the ability to adjust bleed I think it was.

I actually drilled a 1.2mm bleed because I couldn't get a 1mm bit in town. Yes in the stock mid, in the rebound web.
both checks removed also so rebound on top and comp on bottom on both legs now.

mx tech bases are a nice red, need a special tool to install and adjust by an allen key
The race tech bases are boring silver, 18mm socket to install and use a blade screw driver to adjust just like your shock, saves carrying a allen key.
the only downside I didn't like initially about the race tech bases is they don't click when you turn them so you have to count half or quarter turns rather than XX clicks.

I started at 2 turns out the other day and still had around 1" of travel left, went out another half turn and was using all the travel but not bottoming hard, could have went back in 1/4 turn to leave a bit of travel for big hits.

you can get your bits from here http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/1/Husqvarna/FE350/2014 or try Terry direct at http://www.shocktreatment.com.au
Terry's setup is a lot different to what the race tech valving calculator tells you to use

I've been following Terry's work on the 4CS for awhile now. As I like to spin my own wrenches I like his approach as I can do it myself and then alter it easily enough.

I just revalved my 4CS fork with Race Tech parts and specs (open chamber conversion). I don't know..... It feels awful loose pushing up and down on it in the shop. Also has more spring noise than before? Going riding tomorrow but I am little scared. I have the G2R valves coming and Terry Hay has offered to help me with his setup- closed chamber style. I will report back.

Be interesting to hear your thoughts on the RT setup and Terry's RT setup, they are both very different.
