  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So I have posted a few times scattered throughout the Austrian 4 stroke section regarding my suspension rework. I decided to start a new thread to place pertinent information in a better organized fashion. Hopefully future owners will be able to find information easier.
To start, my riding weight in full gear is right at 240lbs for reference. I'm tall so seat height isn't a concern to me but may for some. The stock springs on my bike were a 5.7N rear spring and 4.4N fork springs. I needed about 14mm of shock spring preload to hit the race sag settings with the stock springs. I rode like this for 1 day of heavy trail riding, log crossings and rooted/stepped hill climbs. After that day it became apparent that heavier springs would be in order due to bottoming out and harshness. First I installed a 6.2N rear spring and set the sag thinking I could live with the under sprung forks. After a short ride off road it quickly became apparent that the fork springs were a problem. The only way I can describe it is it felt like the shock spring was pushing the fork springs down when going over small whoops, sorta like a seesaw or baby buggy effect which was unsettling. I added some shock rebound and it mitigated that effect a little but it was still weird. So I decided to order some 4.8N fork springs. I got those from Slavens racing along with the fork cap removal tool. Changing the fork springs was a snap. Took 15 minutes to do both springs at the most. These 4CS forks are a breeze to work on, at least so far. I rode for an hour or so last night and then had a buddy come over and help me measure race sag. Sag is spot on now and the suspension feels very compliant. I have a 2 day event this weekend so it will be a good shakedown on the new springs. I may need to dial my rear rebound a bit to quiet the chatter on down hill braking. Sounds like a bag of bolts at times. I think it needs to be slowed down then right? Should be easy to dial out.

This is the tool you need to remove the fork cap. I guess you might be bable to make a pin wrench if your crafty.

Where did you set your sag at? try it at 105 then 112 and get back to me with your findings

Its at 110 now. Puts static at around 38. Riding this weekend and will play with clickers to fine tune.
