  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TXC310R Battery Changes

I immediatly pulled my YTZ7 lead acid boat anchor and installed a Ballistic 8 cell Li ion battery when I got the machine home (among all my other bullet proof stuff).
Ive been using it since the start of the year. Lately Ive been getting strange start issues, intermittant and recalcitrant (love that word). Switches/buttons and relay look good. I just splurged and ordered up an Earth-X Battery from ZipTY Racing. The Earth-X has a charge system balancing circuit built right into the battery. My aim is alway bullet proof with light wieght in mind, but bullet proof comes first. I'm anxious to plug this battery in and go play.

Uuuuggghh! My Ballistic 8 cell crapped out quickly too. Faaaarrrr from bullet proof indeed. As a matter of fact, I went through two of those POS batteries. I hope the EarthX works out better for you.

Side for info- Note the 8 cell Ballistic was a complimentary battery from Ballistic (very nice customer service) after I tried the 4 cell in my 2011 TE310 and it lasted about 6 months. they gave me an 8 cell as a warranty replacement. I was checking the spec and 4 cell matched the YTZ7 spec so I went super light, which is cool because it worked for a while anyway. If I was a serious racer or race team I would consider the 4 cell and just eat them as needed for each race.
So this comp ballistic 8 cell has lasted about a year now in my TE310 for about 6 months and now in my TXC310R for about six months. Im still not 100% certain its bad there may be a switch/wiring/relay issue as well, but I have been doing more research and the Earth-X made in USA for one thing -- has that built in electronics system to balance the cell charge automatically. ZipTy Racing s very serious about bullet proof race quality items and its by their recommendation I go forward with this new light weight battery.

Ballistic claims to make theirs in the USA too but I have heard that the actual cells are made in china and Ballistic just crams them into their home made containers but I can't confirm that personally.
