  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TXC310 issues

Hey guys,

Just got my second ride in on my new 310. Awesome bike to say the least. I have a few issues, maybe you can help. Only mods I've done is a FMF Q4. The snap off the bottom is a little too much for me. Is it adjustable? I know some bikes have different plugs or switches to change the mapping. Also, the fork is stiff and the rear sometimes will want to buck me over the bars. Whick way should I go with the clickers?

Thanks,
Mike

On my 2012 I found that the engine and chassis needed about 10 hours of "break-in".

Fuel injection has a tendency to make the throttle very abrupt at low speeds but; you get used to it or you can install a throttle cam or perhaps a JD injection tuner to change the mapping. A little richer at the bottom would muffle the response (I think).

My suspension was pretty stiff so I backed off the compression a couple of clicks until I was using most of the travel (a zip tie around the fork and shock shaft will show you how much travel your using) and then backed off the rebound to allow the suspension to come back up to the "plush" part of the travel (plush up front and no "packing" in the back). There is a softer compression preload spring available for the forks which softens up the initial travel a bit ... it's action is pretty subtle though so I'd try to get the forks close to right first.

Mike,

Go to next page and read my thread. It has the map switch part number.

Also, might be some things in there to help you set your bike up to your needs.

I don't know, I have never used one. I know some guys really like them.

Where are the pics of your ride? Have to post some ride reports and findings as you progress getting it set up to your needs.

I will get some going soon. I'm still getting the bike set up. I race the local hare scrambles here in Florida. Lots of sand and whoops, but its fun.

Mike, There's a great post titled 'My TXC310 is almost perfect' here in 4-stroke. I believe it's for the '11 but a good read.

I have my 2 cents copied from one of my replies in the thread...

The 'sudden' throttle thing...

Moose makes a throttle tamer. It has a metal throttle tube (which is nicer to wire-tie the grips to) that comes with the standard cam: #100.
You can get different cams that slow the pull on the first 25% of the twist. We went with the #400 cam and it smoothed out the delivery down low.

It works best when the rider is tired and in a lot of rocks...

Do a search and put '310' as a keyword for the titles only, LOTS of good stuff.

Good luck in Florida.

I use to race harescrambles alot down there. Hate those palmettos, few of them sent me on my shoulder. It was alotta fun and the tracks got dug out pretty good after an hour. I remember jumping over some guy thru a deep gully and heard a large bang. At end of race, he showed me his helmet where my foot peg cracked a hole in it. Said his ears were still ringing.

I use a G2 throttle cam on my TC250, really helps if you ride tight technical terrain, maybe not so much if it is more wide open hare scramble.
