  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TXC310 input

Husqvarna
B Class
Hey everyone,

I've been over at the 2 stroke section getting input on the WR300, and now I'm moving this direction to get some input on the TXC310 Husky. I'll try and put as much back information as possible to save time.

I've ridden for 8 years on street and track. However, I've decided that I want to make the change into Enduro/Harescramble racing (looks damn fun) After a few weeks of research, and consideration I've narrowed down my selection to the TXC310 and the WR300. Of course, this means a big choose. Go for the 2t with a prized History, or the 4 stroke with the latest and greatest tech.

My plans are to ride ALOT the first few months of initial training for Enduro, I'll be doing my best to crank out 30-45 hours a week for training. My mechanical skills are decent, I can pull apart my 94 GSXR1100's, and my 06 Ninja 250 and do a fair amount of work outside of electrical given a proper work space. I've also got experience with fuel injection mapping from my WRX days (they were numbered, I hate cars) So I'm comfortable with dealing with the CDI/Powercommander.

I've heard alot of people say extra work for upkeep. What does that fully consist of besides Valve adjustments, oil changes, filters?

I have a WR250 .....Throwing caution to the wind and picking up my 13' TXC310 on Saturday ..... Keeping the trusty WR though ! I've heard nothing but good stuff about the TXC's reliability.

If you can really ride more than 30 hours a week ... more than 4 hours a day 7 days a week ... you might want to get an older and cheaper (to buy and maintain) 2 stroke for your training ... and put new piston in once a month. I have an old YZ250 (cheap and plentiful and durable) for 'bashing' and reserve my TXC310 for serious work. If (when) I crash the YZ and break stuff it's cheap(er) to fix and my Husky is always at the ready.

Ive had the WR300 and now have a TXC310R. Much prefer the 310, but some of that is that I like the 4-stroke powerband better. On the other hand, all those little moving parts need maintenance. I tend to agree with MikeB that you should use something like a WR for logging those kind of hours, just so you spend less time and money on maintenance. (This applies across all brands by the way; a competition small bore 4-stroke is a high strung piece of engineering)

Oddly enough a 01 YZ250 went up for sale down the street from me..lol I sent them a message about it. But I'll likely only use it till I decide on a bike/new one arrives..lol

People don't ride like 5-10 hours on the weekends? I figured people would roll out to some trails by sunrise, and ride around, eat lunch, and cruise til sunset..lol

Yup, figured as much..lol I'd call them as picky as a classic Watercooled GSXR1100..lol I think I spend equal amount tuning the carbs and the bike as I do riding..They just loosen up

Not fiddling with the carb is one of the best parts about by 449 and 511 and 310 ... Get the thing mapped and ride with no more compensating for elevation or humidity or sun spots or .....

Hi, I'm a 43 year old Hare Scramble racer from S. Florida. I raced and rode 4 strokes my whole life so my opinion probably isnt going to help other than the 310 is the best bike I ever owned. Last weekend, I let two friends ride it. They both race YZ250's. One is a Junior A rider and one is a Senior B rider. They both stopped at the dealership on the way home and bought (2)310's. What they liked the most was the smooth power. They said they could race the bike all day and never get tired. I'm a Senior C rider and think the bike rocks!!

I dont do much. Map switch, Handlebars and Probends, Heavy Duty tubes after my first flat. Sparky insert from the TE model and thats it. It really doesnt need anything.
I think I've decided to go with the TXC310. In my years of street and track riding, a bike that has a controllable and smooth powerband is more ideal than a uncontrollable machine with a twitch throttle.

Thanks all for the consistent input!

When I first bought it, I immediately installed and FMF Q4 muffler because I needed a spark arrestor. The bike was VERY twitchy. The throttle was either on or off and I didnt like it but tried to get used to it. This weekend I put the stock muffler back on, and installed a spart arrestor insert off the TE model(available through Hall's Cycles), and ran the map switch on map 2. Wow, it is EXACTLY what I have been looking for, perfect power for the way I ride. Now if I could just get the harshness out of the fork, everything would be perfect. :)

Nice mike!

Yea, I've decided to take a trip to a dealer in the next couple months to make my purchase. I'd rather see "my" bike before I order it..lol Are you running the bike mostly stock? or have you done alot of work to the bike?

Also, what's the stiffness of the rear shock like?

The shock is fine, i went 1 click slower on the rebound, it was bucking a bit, and its perfect. I'm going to slow down the fork rebound next, i think that may help. I weigh 180 lbs

I see, if that's the case I'd need to make some adjustment myself. I'm 160lbs and will likely be around 170 by the time I get the bike. What type of modifications do you have? rekluse clutch, skid plate of course, and anything else? How are the stock Hand protectors? Your a class B how do they handle the abuse?

Anything else bike protection wise I should look into? building up the shopping list, so everything can arrive at the same time!

I use Renthal fatbar CR hi handlebars and Cycra Probend handguards. I use the stock skidplate cause there are no rocks here. If you are going to change, get a thicker composite(plastic) one, theres much less engine noise and vibration with plastic. If you need a spark arrestor, just use the insert from the TE model, you do NOT need a new exhaust, it comes with a sweet Leo Vince. The map switch is nice. Tires are good all around tires. Switch to heavy duty tubes when you get a chance. Change the oil alot and it should run forever. The oil filters are the same as Honda CRF 250 and 450, even the TRX450 quad matches, they're all the same. I was thinking of shaving the seat, cause the bike is tall, but once I'm riding, I cant tell till I stop. Gearing seems fine to me, I ride MX, and race trails. The chain is a good quality so that doesnt need changing. Sprockets dont seem to wear quickly so they are fine for now. Like I said, just ride it and have a good time, you may think your doing something wrong by not changing everything like, say, on a Honda, but youre not, the stock bike is awesome. Good Luck!!!

Thanks mike,

Most of what you said was what I was eying already. Though I'm confused about the Spark Arrestor, is the TXC310R's weak? or does it go bad often? Is there any items I can use to protect the side of the engine? I see it's pretty much wide open.
