  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

getting tired of fuel injection issues on my 2011 350sx. just bought a 144. whats the good. the bad and the ugly on the 310, lighter then the 350? i would love to have 2 huskys

My latest purchase came down to the choice between three bikes. KTM350xcf, Husaberg FE350 and the mighty TE310R. The "six days" ktm 350 is basically the same as the Husa so its just a matter of colour between those two. My dealer sells both Husky and Husa so I test rode the FE350 and the TE310R. Although I already have a Husky, I was leaning towards the Husa before test riding... here are my first impressions on the two bikes. Note: these were only short test rides on flat dirt tracks.

Power The husky felt stronger in low range and has a narrower powerband so gives quite a hit in the mid range. The 350 had a broader spread of power and revs out longer than the Husky but I feel you'd have to keep it screaming to get the most out of it.
Handling Both good but the Husky felt more agile probably because its narrower between the legs.
Weight I was surprised to be told by the dealer that the Husky is heavier on the scales. I'm not sure how much, but the Husky felt lighter when riding.

Best way to tell is to ride both yourself.

You have the SX model and Husky TXC is not equal. Are you racing mx? I felt in 2012 the KTM was more refind but lack out of the box handling. KTM is lighter by a pound or two. FI issues, have you updated to the 2013 fuel filters? Do you change/clean filters every 4-5hrs? New 2013 310's are better FI wise however there are still some other issues that you may have to deal with. Pick your poison with these two bikes or jump ship and look at a Beta. More simplistic (old proven tech) bike = less issues

clean the golan in line every few hrs. have updated injector installed. it started acting up a couple days ago. thought it was fuel injection troubles. turned out to be my kill switch shorting. so i have about 20 straight trouble free hrs now. after non stop plugged injector. have had fuel tank sock since new as well. i think the golan and the updated injector maybe the final cure. knock on wood. i have it set up for bush. i have a 2012 yz 250f for moto and just bought a 13 cr 144. got to sell the 350 anyways and should not get a third bike according to my wife. ii think i can see a 310 in the future after my yz wears out. was hoping they were lighter then the 350

having ridden several versions of both bikes (350/310) I agree with this assessment. Will add the KTM 350 had a wider more usable transmission. the husky EFI is slightly sucky but as i ride with a lot of guys with KTM 350's i am finding those kinda suck in tight woods also and seem to stall a lot.

the 350 stalls a lot. even with a rekluse. how much for a cr165 brand new already built? i heard that they were avilable from a dealer in the nw

How can anyone tolerate a race bike that stalls? I don't care how light or fast it is...if it is not running what good is it? I had a similar problem with my '10 TE250 when it was new.

I rode Sat with a fellow with a 2011 F.I. KTM350SX. It looked like it was not to heavily used but he was constantly stalling and it smoked a bit too. I thought F.I. was supposed to fix that?

Even with E-start who wants a bike that won't stay running?

How offten do these SX stalls on a track?? Not often if they do because they are MX bikes. The EXC or XC-W have better motors fot the woods. They stall and so do the 310's, I still belive the 350 motor is a better all around vs. the 310.

My 2012 TXC310 and I diced with a KTM350 for about 45 miles of a 55 mile race this weekend. (Until the KTM ran out of gas) It seemed that he could hold each gear longer - more over-rev maybe - and had a slight advantage in high speed deep wet sand washes. I seemed to have the advantage in the tighter and twistier sections - better low end grunt out of turns and better handling. I also gained ground in sand whoops and braking - don't know if it was bike or rider.

I had a hard time deciding between the 2 when I made my purchase 18 months ago and ultimately made my decision based upon reliability rumours. My TXC310 has never had 1 real issue (other than a broken Ballistic battery) in over 90 hours of hard riding. (And I can't get a gas tank screen for my bike)

I think the KTM may "feel" a little more like a small 450 while the Husky "feels" like a big 250.

my 350 doesnt stall on the track unless my injector is clogged. i have that figured out. knock on wood.
