  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 2013
Hi guys, I am having a problem with all that is related to the 10 Amp fuse.
So basically the head light , tail light, speedometer, horn are not working.
I tried changing the 10 Amp fuse near the headlight and still not working.
Tried cleaning all the wiring and nothing.
Anyone had the issue before???

well, it is real hard to diagnose electrical problems over the internet... but I'll give it a try if you can supply a few simple answers to some very precise questions. (caveat: I'm using the schematic for the 2012 TE511)

does the bike run and start normally?

You never said if the first fuse was blown- so was it? did the new fuse blow? If yes, than they're doing their job and you got a short probably (most likely the green/black wire somewhere around the steering stem. look close- no... closer; it's gonna be hard to see where the clutch line rubbed the insulation off this wire, for example).

LMK what you find and we'll go from there

Thanks for the reply
well the bike runs and starts perfectly
the fuse was not blown
I changed anyways...
I cleaned all the connectors from sand and water...

If you don't have voltage at the fuse (either side) and nothing on the #1 terminal (green/yellow wire) of the relay, then something is up with the DC relay- more than likely. If this is true...

....try pulling the relay out of the socket and re-inserting it. Try another relay. Try jumpering terminals #1 and #3 (brown wire) with a paper clip or wire (relay out) while the bike is running... if you feel confident enough to pull this off [IOW: don't short anything out]

LMK what you find out.

Hi Shovel head,

Sorry for the delay...
Its not the relay... i tried another one and still not working...
And by the way the bike that i took from works fine without the relay.
Dunno what it could be...

Well, (again) did you test the voltages on either side of the fuse like I suggested BEFORE messing with the relay? what did you find? you gotta do these tests in the order given- and REPORT the results.

...and you shouldn't care how the donor bike runs w/ or w/o the relay, 'cept if you put yours in it. I should point out your bike works just fine without the relay also- just no lights. So no new info there.

Be thorough and more methodical.

Done.
I stripped all the bike and there was a wire cut .
All back to normal
That's all folks!
Thanks Shovelhead

Congratulations. I don't suppose you remember what wire was cut or what caused the cut, do you? That could help solve future problems on other bikes.
