  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE449 Oil Filter Cap / Upgrade Exhaust?

Savannan

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello all,

Just wanted to say that I love my 2013 TE449****************************************! But I have some simple questions hopefully someone could answer...and yes, I've used "search" :)

1) I've stripped that blasted oil filter housing cap!!! I know, I know....seems like most people have had a run in with that problem. I have the PDF catalog of Husky parts and found the cap but I would rather not get a "OEM" one (for obvious reasons). I know alot of people here, have aftermarket oil filter caps. The only place I found one for sale is somewhere (I think) in Germany but I would rather purchase one here in the USA if there is one. Anyone know where I can buy a aftermarket oil filter cap here in the US?

2) I was very impressed with the power increase from stock power to Race Map II. I cut out the catalytic converter, installed jumper and removed O2 sensor(not needed). I was thinking about sending my ECU in for BMW Map III. I know with a larger power gain, you need supporting MODS to make the most of it. Would my exhaust (catalytic converter removed) be good enough for BMW Map III?....Or would I have to purchase a aftermarket exhaust, like FMF?

Thanks a million!
Sav

The FMF with map3 (open exhaust map) is the way to go. I have swapped back to back with my decatted and the FMF,
and the FMF is much snappier everywhere. Hall's has the filter cap you want (red anodized). Zip Ty can remap you
For about $40 plus shipping (best money you can spend) zip Ty & halls are sponsors look Em up!

Thank you SO MUCH for the info. I will order that Oil Filter Cap tomorrow first thing!

BUT I DO HAVE ONE MORE PROBLEM THOU...JUST REALIZED IT TONIGHT

If you can answer or perhaps anyone else...........

My fan doesn't come on. It used to... Where is the fuse located at if there is one for it? I checked the 2 fuses next to the ECU (probably for ECU or Starter...) and there is red fuse located next to the instrument gauge but they all are fine. I have about a month left on my 6 month warranty...I guess I could pull the fan out and test it but I would rather check the easy stuff 1st :applause:

Any help in very MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks
Sav

Map 3 and a pipe, TPS reset if you have a hanging idle, Zip Ty drain plug filler cap/return fitting for Zip Ty breather system. You really wont regret those mods; they are def worth the money.

Greetings: Were you able to get the oil filter cover from Hall's? I have searched their website and cannot find one..... any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Walt

I politely disagree. The FMF is simply too loud. The most beautiful thing about this bike is that it blows < 89 dB all the time - at any RPM. With the cat out, it still is uber quiet and runs ridiculously better. Map 3 will blow you way!

While there are exceptions, all that the vast majority of aftermarket pipes do is lose us trails.

I didn't say it was quieter. I said it makes a noticeable difference in performance. I have my decatted pipe, and use
it for dual sport rides. I have since went to PCV which is even better. I ride with the FMF, PCV, TC airbox, and ziptys
nick map when I ride at the club, noise is not an issue, privately owed club. Tight single track, TT course, MX.
I agree this set up is to loud for riding through towns, subdivisions, state owned riding areas.
The decatted pipe, stock airbox, and PCV's map is quiet, smooth and still a lot of fun.
Takes me 20 min to switch back and forth. I also switch gearing from 13/51, 13/40. Make the bike
More versatile,

Having went through this about 2x the FMF powercore 4 slip on with QUIET insert, is slightly louder than the factory decatted pipe, but sounds about 10000000x better. It also gives you quite a bit more power! I swapped them back and forth, the fmf is the way to go, no way around it.

Stock decatted pipe, with spark arrestor removed is f-ing loud! but feels about the same as the fmf with quiet insert.

FMF with the normal tip spark arrestor is loud as hell, NOT recommended!

FMF with quiet spark arrestor insert is perfect imo. Louder than stock, but not requiring ear plugs, feels great in racemap II and sounds AWESOME. Really cant stress this enough, the stock pipe sounds like ASS! Tinny and crappy sounding. Even decatted it really has some more thump at idle but sounds like trash once going. '

Also the stock pipe with cat removed is just still way way too heavy.

Walt - Yes, I did manage to get the stock oil filter cap off. I just did what someone on here suggested....Use a hammer and a flat blade screwdriver. I also ordered a Oil Filter Cap from Halls, the red anodized husky version..... but it took 2 1/2 months to get.

You guys mention about the FMF PC4 quiet insert. My FMF PC4 is quite a bit louder than my de-catted stocker. I live down at the end of a caul-da-sac in a private sub and I can just hear my neighbors now bitching at me when I come home at 1 in the morning from work when I get it out in the spring....

Does anyone have a link to the proper quiet insert for the PC4? I emailed FMF directly 2 weeks ago about this subject and they haven't returned my email.

With the insert in place...is it a noticeable difference over stock PC4?

Thanks A Million Guys!!

Sav

If I were riding my bike on the road, I would have no problem with the FMF - it isn't obnoxiously loud. I have only tun one test and it was 96 dB with the quiet insert. I saw another number here that was 94...maybe 95. Again, keeping it in context, it is not terrible.

That being said, stock blows 87 and 88-89 with no cat. Those are stellar numbers. Perceived sound doubles at around a 6 dB increase at this range, so the jump from 88 to 95 is indeed perceived as twice as loud. No way around the math.

On clsoed circuit or open road - I dont mind. On public land I do. The folks that want us off trails care about one thing - sound.

The aad thing is that any of the pip makers can make a free flowing pipe that stays in the 90-92 range - they just don't.

If I were a rich greenie, I would open a pipe shop and crank out 104 dB Dr. D style pipes and pimp them out for pennies on the dollar to everyone on a four stroke. In five years we would have nowhere left to ride.
