  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310R Starter issues - Late to the party

Husqvarna
Hi guys,

so since a few days i'm the proud owner of a 2013 TE310 with not even 500 km on the clock.
It sat most of its life in a garage, was then used a bit by the nephew of the owner who then sold it.
I bought the bike with a broken starter motor, thinking it would be an easy fix. Oh boy...

So here is my investigation so far:
- Bike runs great as far as i can tell
- started on the first kick when hot, on the 3rd to 5th when cold
- Starter motor doesnt move

I pulled the starter assembly and found out some interesting things:
- Continuity check on the motor failed
- Somebody replaced the stock gasket on the starter assembly with some kind of liquid / silicone gasket, which blocked the oil port
- Worm drive looks perfect
- Starter motor had some nicks / scratches on the body
- Motor drive shaft was completely seized - tried turning it with a wrench, which worked, but it makes grinding noises

Couldnt look inside the motor yet (no fitting socket - 5,5mm?) but i think the magnet is shattered.

So i guess my question is, where to go from here? My plan is now to:
- Check the valve clearance, auto-decomp valve should be 0,15 - 0,20 mm
- Check the functionality of the auto-decomp cam
- Pull off the ignition cover and flywheel, check for damage / wear on the worm gear, flywheel, key and sprag clutch
Did i forget anything?

Should i leave it kick only or put in a new starter motor? How big are the chances i end up with a destroyed worm drive after i spend 350€ for a new starter motor?
