  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310R Map Switch 8539428 Installation

I am considering installing the map switch. Are both maps programmed at the factory? Part number 8539428 is not listed in the factory parts manual so I don't see where the cables connect. Anyone have an installation photo or schematic? I could also try hard wiring the presumably open female connector to ground for a test as I understand the EFI checks the switch only at power-up.

I like the idea of a mellower throttle response. I'd rather have more low end torque than 40 peaky HP that just spin the rear tire assuming that's what the 'rain' map does. It's only 25 bucks for the factory switch but I'll hard wire it to try it. Can you see where the cable connects?

I'm not sure if the map switch is even compatible with the 13's with Keihin FI....? maybe someone else could verify this?

In my opinion, powering up your bike then adding G2 throttle tamer would be the way to go.

I added the G2 throttle tamer last night but I haven't tried it yet. The 'Special Parts' catalog lists the part for the 2013 model.

This switch is for the 2013/2014 models.
Connects behind headlight (plugs directly into loom).
I have to say it does make a difference but the effect is not huge !

The switch above has a ground strap and a single plug. Is that compatible with the loom connecter or am I missing something?

I found a two pin connector behind the fairing. The connectors in the image above definitely do not fit. Is the special parts catalog picture incorrect? Is the switch a simple open/short switch? If so, I can simply short the pins for the alternate map.

8539428 is for 2013 and has the correct plug. Installation required a few minutes. I am pleasantly surprised with the results. I much prefer the milder map; in fact I could have simply shorted the pins for permanent installation. With the gearing at the 12 front/50 rear, milder map, G2 Throttle Tamer and front fork brace raised to the top to increase the rake, she went from a squirrelly, peaky thrill ride to a confidence-inspiring traily with some get-and-go if you are in the mood.

Jim, Just got a switch for my 2013 but its blue and a single button. I am thinking its the one for before 2013 and maybe wont work. Currently it doesn't appear to do anything. When do you have to switch running / dead?? What are you switching between?? Can you tell, does it show on dash?? Sounds like you experienced a decent change. I feel the same way. Would be nice to have a little less abrupt throttle in the tight snotty stuff. Thanks!

You have the wrong switch ! The Blue one is for the 12's and earlier Mikuni FI .
You need a switch which will stay "latched" for the 13 & 14's like the one in the photo above.
