  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310 won’t turn over

I have been through the other TE310 threads on the electric start issue. My ring & worm gear were replaced by the dealer not long after I bought it. That helped for several years. It started acting up again, slowly getting worse. I have shimmed the left exhaust valve to help the compression release. That may have helped for a little while. But it continued to get worse. It does not seem to matter hot or cold. I was able to start it for a while by simultaneously pushing the e button and kicking.

Now it will not turn over by either electric, kick or combination even with the spark plug removed.

I can’t bump start it since I have a recluse clutch. I am able to turn the motor over using a wrench on the fly wheel nut.

Something in the starting system seems to be binding. Anyone have any ideas?

No, I don't have anything that can to do that.

How would that affect the kick starter not turning the motor?

To be honest, it sounds bad, but I'm still learning. If you've have the valve cover off and there's not issues with valves being out of spec or something loose, broken or out of place then I'd say the problem is in the bottom end. It's not some how stuck in gear is it?

BTW, I see you're on Whidbey. I lived in Everett from 99-2014, miss sailing over to Whidbey and may other things about my home state of Washington!

It could be the sprag (one way) clutch inside the flywheel is jammed keeping the starter motor always engaged. I've had this happen. You will need to remove the flywheel to replace the sprag clutch.

Fixed. It was the sprag clutch. Kicks and turns over with the electric starter now.

Believe I’m experiencing the same issue intermittently. Did the sprag show signs of failure at all? My issue only happens every so often so I’m not sure I’ll be able to tell for sure if that’s it. Would be easier if it was just locked up…
