  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE310 Hour Meter Not Working?

Kenneth Webb

Livin' It Up!
Either my Hour Meter function is not working or there is Operator Error. The manual sez to press the button for more than 3 seconds, and no matter how long I press, the meter still reads 0:00. The instructions seem pretty simple, but am I doing something wrong, or does the bike need to go back to the shop? I really want that hour counter.

This issue has been reported in many prior threads and is the result of sloppy marketing and product development/QC. Normally a claim of false advertising in the USA would result in said manufacturer/seller providing said advertised product at their cost. Time for a class action suit so all of us can get our hour meters we paid for ;-)

I bet the new ones will work.... the 2014's. Just saying. I love my 2011 TE 250 but may if the next generation FE 350 is half as good as it looks it might be time for a new bike.

Of topic: Kenneth should you find your kickstand missing and money taped to the seat, you'll know who got it. ;)
I may go the easy/lazy route and find another stand to tweak.

The easy way is to get one of the steel 610 stands and work from there. It's what I did for my 630 and I think you can make it work with a bit of welding.

I don't suppose there is a way to convert miles to hours. Have not found one anyway. So if we have no hr meter when to change oil? 300, 200, 100 miles or sooner?

I haven't had a chance to do any digging yet, but I want to look at the schematic to at least see if there is an input lead or point for the hour meter. I would like to find out what the differences are between the 13's and the earlier bikes with different EFI. If this has been covered before then maybe I can search it out.

There's nothing obvious in the schematic. I suspect it's all handled in the ECU. Since these bikes are electronically controlled, they wouldn't need an external sensor to detect the engine speed, they could just time it based on the injector pulse. It's most likely a firmware issue in the ECU.

Prior to 2013 they used Mikuni but yours has Keihin. Not compatible. Do a search, this has been covered extensively. Others have installed an after market hour meter.
