  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Plan on doing some desert riding and mpg is a biggie. thinking of going up a tooth and pulling the power up plug ( map 2 and fmf). Have the fender tank from Motorsportz on the way but 150 miles is the safe spot. Thoughts?

Powercommander is your best bet, that way you can keep your fuel ratios rich at the lower rpms where it would be safe and lean out the top for good fuel miles. Don't think you can get a 16 CS, but a lot of people go down to a 45 tooth rear.

Bleeding money lately on several bikes so the PC is out and I appreciate the heads up on the lean condition. Looking into the 45 rear as I usually start in second with the stock gearing. Thanks.

Tinken, I was looking at your ironman rear sprocket. Any chance this helps the out of round/ chain slack issue?

I have a 41 tooth and the fmf/JD and I get ~40 mpg. Without the JD I might be able to get close to 50 mpg. 150 miles is pushing it even with the nomad tank. FYI with the nomad tank you have around 3.3 gallons of total fuel with both tanks full.

Since new the chain slack varied depending on rotation. I read somewhere that the rear sprocket was not centered on the wheel.

Bryce, I am not used to changing rear sprockets. Can you give me an idea of the difference from stock?

Stock is 52 for the rear i believe. I went to a 41 so that is ~21% taller. I could cruise comfortably at ~55 before, now I can cruise at about ~67. It did make a big difference for 1st gear though, so if you want to keep a low gear for the really tight stuff, you might want to go with a 45 tooth rear.

I think 45 will work best. For a close ratio 6 speed first is a little high. Like the idea of the easy cruise though.
