  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2013 TE 449 question ??

Rodger Davis

Husqvarna

Is the new 2015 350 or 501 worth twice the money as a used 2013 TE with 300 miles on it ?? I would like to buy this bike but have concerns that I will have regrets. Pro's/Cons

There are many mixed reviews about the 511.
Really depends on what you want to use it for.
I am still loving my 2012. Lots of hard trail miles and it is yet to let me down.

I'd say the 449 is the better deal by far. The biggest known problem- which only affects a small population of the engines apparently, is the "loose flywheel bolts" which can destroy your stator. Easily solved... do a search here.

The oil breather systems needs some mods or you'll be pushing oil out the airbox. again: do a search and become informed.

My kid's 511 is a rocket ship. If you get the 449, a pipe, a map change (and maybe an aftermarket ecu "interpreter" by JD or Power Commander) will make it a hard runner. The motor seems solid & reliable; the ergos are good and it looks great. I will say that I find the "no key" ignition a little off-putting for some reason. But hell, half the cars sold nowadays are the same way :excuseme:

good luck.

You do not need to spend twice the money. You could throw every mod in the book at the 511 short of those that require internal crank or head work and still have the extra $4000 in your pocket. At 300 miles it's not even completely broken in yet!

You'll be happy. I race mine right now and it's very reliable. Plus the CTS is like cheating when it comes to putting the power to the ground

No race here Just want something with enough power to haul my old fat 200lb butt around the passes in the Rockies
and yet be light enough that it doesn't kill me when it fall on me.

They're a great machine.
Any of the 'issues'mentioned above can be solved without spending much money at all and if you're handy on the tools you do it all yourself simply.
There are DIY threads here for curing the flameouts (if any)
the breather issue, removing the second butterfly for better throttle response etc.
If that's not your thing, yes there's the commercial fixes too.

I'm at 200 hrs as of the last ride and haven't been inside the cases. All of them offroad.
Put the extra money in your pocket!

Ok I have the bike bought. Won't get it until Oct 14th. I have Rox risers here and Oxford adventure heated grips on the way. I'm looking for some larger pegs. Would like them a bit longer as well as a little wider. Any input???

You are the MAN !!! Looks like when my bike gets here I just as well just give you my CC # for you to put on file. :)

I spend all my extra money there. Luckily my wife is supportive! It's even worse that I live close enough to just go and get stuff. This instant gratification is quite dangerous to my mad money.

I now have the bike. Have no time on it yet. It shows "race ll" on the display. I assume that's the map that's in it. Is this good bad or what. It has the stock exhaust it that plays into things.
I plan on using the bike to bum around on jeep trails etc so don't need major power.
Any input ??

Race map II means it's on the better fueling map which is less lean than the regular map. Pop off the seat and look for a 2 pin plug near the big connector that goes to the ECU. You may want to make sure what's in there. They stopped supplying the jumper that turns on map 2 in 13 and many people just stuck a piece of wire in there.
