    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2013 449 engine wont start when hot..

My new bike is having a weird issue. Saturday i found a mud flat area with some single track and small jumps and had some fun for about 30 minutes. The bike got pretty hot im sure with no wind helping the temps.. I had no problem the whole time and then i left for home a few miles down street. I made it down few streets and made slight detour to a trail i know and as i slowed down i remember stalling the bike and not being able to quickly have electric starter start it. Attaching video that i took of the next event. I eventually had to get a battery jump as i had ran all the juice out of the battery attempting to start and push start a few times. The bike is brand new and breaking in nicely besides this issue.

Tuesday i rode the bike through town and got to work and held the red engine stop button to shut down and it then starting cranking to turn bike back on automatically. I then hit the start button and it stopped this nonsense.

What is my first step?
250 miles, just put power jumper in, rode the bike 40 miles straight before the first issue thinking this should charge the battery right?

Sounds electrical, like maybe the start/kill button mechanism has a short. I would take that apart and look at it first.
 
You sir are right on target. I've come to the conclusion and noticed that it was definitely the start button causing the issue. It was sticking closed and I must have not noticed the starter sitting there attempting to start after the bike had started. Riding down the road could have killed the battery pretty quick and that's why it made the noise when I pulled in clutch. It makes sense since the bike tried restarting itself today as well.

Sooner or later you will need map #3 loaded onto your ecu. With no electrical failures, the bike will start easier hot or cold.

Hi everyone just thought I would ask a question on this site as on prepping a 2011 the 449 for an adventure /rally bike I encountered an issue. Basically the bike was ridden about 100 miles since doing the work. It rode great no issues. Second time out after about 20 miles the bike started to get what seemed like a surging throttle. After stopping I noticed the bike wouldn't rev past about 25%throttle. Anyway after fiddling with it at the side of the trail I thought I would limp back home. Went to pull off and bike was running full power again. So I detoured through some tricky going and a short while later bike starts to drop power and starts the jerky power delivery.
I head home change the plug bike seems fine fine revs out great. Jump on it and ride about 15 miles back into the hills. All okay so I start some tricky stuff bike still going great. I then pull onto a road and the bike starts the jerky throttle. It then cuts out, however what comes next I may have slightly wrong as I acted fast to stop it. When the bike stalled the starter motor just cranked by itself but the bike wasn't starting so I turned the ignition key off ,with the key off the engine fired, I then turned the ignition back on and the engine stopped but the cranking started again. I then whipped the earth off the battery to stop it. I recovered the bike with the van. Now it's back home it cranks fine, it has a spark. Fuel is pumping but it won't fire up. Any ideas?
