  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2012 WR300 Starting issues driving me nuts, can anyone help?

Hi Guys,

I have just picked up a near new(200kms) WR300, the bike is in mint condition and when i can get it to start its awesome. Unfortunately its very temperamental, yesterday it was starting within 2-3 kicks, today it was more like 10-20 kicks. Surely the the Mikuni cant be that sensitive can it? I pulled the carb out and it has a 420 main jet and a 32.5 pilot, airscrew was 1.75 turns out, don't really know what the needle position is. I am in Adelaide SA so i am at sea level.

It kicks back hard, my right foot is feeling the painful result of extreme kickback. When it does start it seems its when i'm putting in only a moderate kick and it hits TDC half way through my kick.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix?

I am seriously worried about stalling it in the middle of nowhere and not being able to restart the bike, in fact it stopped at the traffic lights tonight and i had to roll to the side of the road and give it around 8-9 kicks.

possible you are slightly lean but check the strength and consistency of the spark first.i had very similar probs with my 2012 wr 300 and replacing the stator helped with starting but it still had inconsistent spark that caused another seizure.replacing the faulty reg/rectifier seems to of fixed the starting prob.severe/regular kick back is a sure sign of an erratic spark\faulty ignition

Hi Guys

I also have a 2013 model WR300 that's hard to fire up.
Only when cold though, first thing in the morning and since I'm about to ride the A4DE I need to get the technique right so I don't loose points in the cold start test. (bike must start and pass a flag under its own steam within 60 seconds)
It starts first kick when warm.

So the set up:
Stock jets in Mikuni carb
I've set the float level
Kick start positioned correctly (all but against the pipe - can touch it if you push it in)
After a few (lots) kicks it starts but then stops, a few more kicks then she fires up and idles nicely on the choke.
I turn the fuel tap off when not riding - before kicking I turn fuel on - observe fuel filter fill up and stop running fuel through it- then turn fuel off - then kick.

Should I lean the bike over and get fuel to run out of the overflow or something? Keep the fuel tap open? Any ideas would be helpful.

i've discovered that mine is much harder to start if air screw is more in. if air screw is more out, it starts 1 kick.
