  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I recently picked up a left over brand new 2012 TE310 from a dealer. Deal seemed good, $4,709 out the door, so I pulled the trigger. I didn't receive the power-up kit with the bike so I've been doing the power-up mods at home and had a question about the rear sprocket. The stock TE310 comes with a 40-tooth rear. I read somewhere that switching to the 50-tooth requires a few extra links in the chain. Does anyone know what the largest rear sprocket is that I can safely install without changing the chain or adding links. I'll be riding about 10-15% single track and using it for 3 or 4 AMA DS series rides this year. I don't need to go more than 50-55 mph. Any help would be appreciated.

If your speed won't be high like you say then definitely go with a range in the 48/50T on the rear. Anything lower will cause a bunch of grief with stalling. Stalling coming in and out of turns as well as single track. With all the mods I have done on mine, I can get away with a 48T now but before that, a 50t was needed. I like the 48T personally since I ride fast and avoid creeping around now. I have 3 extra links to accomodate this setup. You will either need to rivet on some links or order a new chain. Congrats on the new bike:cheers:

I'm running 13/50 on mine now, but plan on going to a 12-tooth countershaft sprocket. Just get in touch with Nate at Dirt Tricks and order an Ironman sprocket and chain combo. Make sure you get new sprocket bolts also. Not a good idea to reuse them.

I'm running 12/45 now and that works pretty good on my '13 310 on the single track. This way I can more easily change out the front to a 13 when I'm doing more open d/s riding.

I'm also running a 13/50 on my 2012 310, made a huge difference, went with a longer chain at the same time.

Any chance of poking around at the dealer you got the bike from sometimes the bikes came with the extra parts sometimes they didn't..some of the sales people didn't know about the extra parts which was the case with my 2012 310 I recently got I was surprised with a big box of parts when I arrived at dealer to pick up the bike!?

13-50 or better still 12-51, get a new chain then you'll have a road gearing setup if needed.

Thanks for the input and the options. Based on what kind of riding I'm planning on doing, I think the 12/45 combination sounds like a good option. It'll be close to a 13/50 set up and I agree with the switch to the 13 for the DS rides. The chain that came with the bike is definitely too short, the tire sits so far forward that the shock guard ended up with a huge hole in it after the first ride. Is there a specific number of links I'm looking for with a 12/45 set up?

I think you'd be happier with the 13/50. That's what's on mine now, but I am going to a 12/50 for better performance in single track.

I run the 45. I have few times I need lower gearing. A 47/48 might be my choice ultimately if I was to change again. Depends on specific terrain you ride. Open or tight and steep.
