  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 TE310 Max Oil Levels

River-Runner

Husqvarna
AA Class
So does the 310 have the same internal design as the 449/511 regarding being able to run additional oil over and above the 900 CC's listed in the owner's manual? I.E., dry sump and transmission / crankcase seperate? What is the maximum folks have run consistantly without problem.

I'd love to run say 200CC more oil if possible without hurting anything. More oil is better than less oil as it is starting to get hot out in eastern Oregon....

Thanks,

Good question. I have the recirc ZipTy kit and run the level to the top of the site glass which ends up being just under a full quart. Maybe 1 OZ short of emptying the bottle.

I dump in a whole quart (946ml) when I change my oil. That's less than 2 ounces more than the recommended 900ml.

No. Standard sump. 946cc sounds good to me.

Tinken,

For my education. What happens inside the motor if there is too much oil in a standard sump? Does the crankshaft end up slapping the oil and make it foam, thus reducing it's ability to lubricate?

Thank you.

If you have excessive oil it will cause some hp loss from the crankshaft fighting it, but what usually happens is you will just blow it out the breather vent. Experiment with it, let us know what you find.

I'm not showing any foaming or aeration in the sight glass when the engine is running, so 946ml must be fine.

I have this fancy red oil recirculation system designed just for my 310.....so I'm sure I would never lose any oil out the breather vent..........

Thanks Tinken!

I put in 1000CC's of Mobile 1 15-50 with the last oil fill and we did about 80 miles of asphalt last weekend - no time to hit the trails......everything was ok, nothing out the air filter housing and my wife didn't complain about anything.

MNB - what are the symptoms of overfill - oil comes over the fill hole?

The 1000CC's went in the 2012 TE310 OK.

While the breather fix is not prone to the issues as stock, I would assume that the hose could accommodate a few extra oz of oil until it rises in the front. Would be curious how much oil is contained with the mod and without.
