    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

2012 TE250 Gas Tank Reserve?

I just bought my first Huskie, a 2012 TE250, and am wondering how the gas tank/pump/fuel injection works. I don't race, just ride around the farm and go up in the Rockies once a year. The salesman mentioned the two petcocks and how he leaves them off as a kind of reserve. As I looked at them today I began wondering how those two petcocks work? It looks like there is a hose that runs from one to the other. Is that to keep the gas in the two low sides of the tank balanced? Also, I couldn't see where the gas line is that takes the fuel from the tank to the carburetor/fuel injection system. It looks like the lowest parts of the tank are where the petcocks are, so if the gas doesn't come out there how does it get used? Thanks for any help in understanding this.
 
I was supposed to get a workshop manual with my motorcycle but it wasn't on the jump drive, but I've found it online and have been reading about the fuel injection system. The manual calls the petcocks "taps" and it mentions that the one on the right is near the reserve sensor. I can see two wires going to the tap on the right and so I'm assuming they are for the reserve sensor/low fuel indicator. I also see that the fuel pump is on the left side of the tank close to the other tap. So if both taps were kept closed while riding, when the gas got low enough the sensor would indicate low fuel then the pump on the left side would use all of the gas over there leaving a small amount of gas on the right side. If you hadn't noticed the low fuel indicator and ran out of gas you could open both taps and use the right side reserve. Is that the idea?
 
The idea of the two fuel taps is so you can disconnect the balance pipe when removing the Tank.

I guess you could use them as a "reserve" as you state above. But I think most people leave both taps on, all the time.
 
since its fuel injected you dont have to turn the fuel off like a carb bike, I leave mine on all the time. the petcocks are really more just fuel crossover in the bottom on the tank.

Right, closing the taps doesn't turn off the fuel, just closes off the crossover/balance tube.
