  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 SMR 511 crankcase breather issue

Hello all. So today I removed my charcoal canister junk and I figured while I was at it that I would also disconnect the crankcase breather from the airbox and install a breather filter like many others have done. I took it for a lap around the block after install and I came back to a bunch of oil that had barfed out of the filter. Is this expected for this setup initially until oil level gets lower (just recently changed oil) or should I reroute my hose back to the airbox? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I attached a pic of my setup. image.jpg

Just bought the zipty top breather and installed, comes with a cap for the stock lower hose location. I've read good reports here and don't like running with less oil in the case. I'll check back with you in 1 1/2weeks, give you a report.

Smartest move is to get the breather mod from the Zipty guys. While there also recommend going to mobil1 0w-40 for your oil you will notice the difference.

Thanks Tinken. But when will they be available?View attachment 30222
In the meantime while you wait for the next run of tanks to be done, perhaps you can run a longer hose to reduce the oil mess, or just return it to stock. Also, you do not have to have the oil tank mod to run the breather. There are quite a few people here on CH who have installed the breather itself and modified the existing hose routing.

However the whole system together is uber cool!

Thanks guys for the feedback. Huskyrob450, I'm curious to see how your setup goes. I may return mine to stock for now so I don't have to cram in a mess of tubing through my bike.

I have had the breather and tank for several hundred miles and a couple of oil changes. Works great!
Quality stuff. I run 1300/1400cc of oil without any oil box mess.

We are actually incorporating something new into the 2nd generation kits which may also be added to previous kits. It is because of this, the orders are taking a little longer.

Sounds exciting...looking forward to seeing what comes out of ZipTy skunkworks. I have returned my breather back to stock for now, but just for kicks, I'll try 0W-40 oil as well.

I just ran some 3/8 fuel line over the top cut the hose at a 45* so it lays better above the starter gear . Just a quick temp install till I rig a catch can, maybe another butane refill tube like the radiator overflow shown far left. Had a bunch of oil still come out of the air box drain on top of the motor. Thought those days were over? Tinkin hasn't responded . Have no Idea where all the oil came from. I wiped out the air box thoroughly during the install. The bike did land upside down on a couple Gnarly rock climb flameouts, that explains the small amount that came out the hose end. Guess I'll just clean the mess up and go out again in another week, see what happens? Thing is I can see no other hoses running to the air box ?P1020002.JPG
