  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

more like scoring from an improperly chamfered port.....or something got in there :thinking:

I was expecting to see the ring adhered to the ring groove with a siezure (as you pointed out)....looks like the ring is still pretty free

Another thing indicating that Husqvarna Quality Control may not be quite what it is supposed to be is that the 150 kit contained new powervalves. Not really necessary since the 125 has the same ones but they were both for the right side! Ha ha! :doh:

The further adventures of "Enzo and Vito"..... These mythical guys are the ones who add or don't, the little bits in the crate before they close it up. "Enzo, did you mix up the parts for those two 144 kits?" asked Vito. "Not me," Enzo answered back. "I dropped the boxes and the parts spilled out, but I put all the parts back!"

On the seizure.... Husky had to put out a bulletin to change jetting specs on '11 WR250's with Ducati ingnitions, as the spec used with the Koukasan WR analog ignition was causing seizures. Are '12 WR125 jetting specs different from previous WR125/150 specs with analog ignition?

Another thought, was the spigot of the pipe tight in the cylinder?

Another thought, what does the tips of powervalves look like? From the. Picture looks like the eges closest to exhaust bridge are shiny?

Troy might be correct. Look at the lack of chamfering around the exhaust port corners, closest to exhaust bridge.
 
I have , like a 2hr cylinder/fairly new 125 piston. You could borrow it till you get back up and running. You would have to use your powervalves.
 
I think this wr stuff has been blown a bit out of proportion, do admit they take special tuning and I am very happy with mine. That being said, I have not ridden a cr but sounds like they could be fun and I bet I will eventually get to try one. Still believe a properly tuned wr is better for where I ride.

I agree, my WR before CR ignition was tuned great. Those Ducati ignitions with less flywheel mass should spool up a little better.

Thanks, but I should have the 150 kit up and running today. I will check the chamfering in the exhaust port.

I suspect that if the seizures were from pinging ie jetting/ ignition related it would be from detonation and the top of the piston would be cratered :thinking:....perhaps some impact material leaving the scene created those score marks......maybe CETIC can let us see the top of the slug ?

I remember Scotty saying something about a seizure on a new 09 125 he saw once....where the guy went WFO on a cold motor on a fireroad....

Brings us to another subject.....I always do the ritual to let the bike tick over(say while you putting your gear on) till the bottom of the rads are very warm before your ready for take off.....or perhaps thats just the mindset of a seasoned canuck eh

ie in a cold engine the piston will always expand way faster than the cylinder around it unless its warmed in a no load condition

I'm not suggesting thats the case here BTW
 
To me it looks like you had an air leak from the pipe...or too lean somewhere....I would say too lean somewhere...worst cooling part of the motor is right there where you dont have as much cooling....IMHO
