  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2011 wr300 or 2012 te300????

Im in the market for a nice 300... does anyone have issues kicking the wr300? anyone know the top speed on the wr300 with stock gearing?

Even I learned to start wr300 with 1 kick and I m short and light. Top speed i saw was close to 70mph...on knobbies.

Mine was easy to start with the stock carburetor properly jetted and even easier with the Lectron. The kick starter is awkward, but most people can figure it out. I never got the appeal of an electric starter on a dirt bike, and I have owned a few. Maybe for racing, just in case you stall, but an autoclutch is a better solution for that.

Mine will do about 110 km/h with 13/48 gearing.

The Husky is a very good bike for the money, but if money was no object, I would be looking at the newer HusyKTMaberg TE. (although I must admit that I have never ridden one)

That's good to know guys.. My local husky dealer in nj told my brother not to even look at the wr300. He ended up with a txc310 that he loves. Dealer told him it was crazy hard to start. The electric start is great on me 450 so i thought it would be equally as nice on a 300.

Lol!!! Yeah I haven't tried to start one myself. My 450's battery died on the trails on Monday and kicking it for 30 minutes in the woods sucked the big one!

I have a '12 Husaberg TE250 and it's a good bike, but correct rear spring for your weight is critical with PDS. I've never had it at absolute top speed, but with 13/52 gearing, which is lower than stock (13/50) I've had it at 79 mph, with throttle to spare. That is with my accurately calibrated ICO Checkmate, so it's not BS. A stock geared '12 TE300 could probably do over 90 mph......

Cagiva built Husky WRs used a MX close ratio gear box so not a lot of speed to get out of them. For cold starts I've found 1-2 kicks now starting it like a four stroke. That's right, NO gas whatsoever but choke of course. Hot starts usually one kick. When I used gas on cold start it took 10 kicks at least.
