  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Was riding along and it just died hit the starter switch.... NOTHING. No click or anything. Checked obvious things to no avail... It was a long walk back to the truck. Bike has 13.4 hours on it. Anyone have an idea of what couldve happened....... Had gas.. I could hear the FI buzzing after it died like it usually does.

Are you able to push start it? If it was buzzing like it normally does I would think the fuel pump was priming. If that's true then I would move to the starter and see if that was getting voltage. somewhere in the line I would be a wire is disconnected or improperly grounded. I assume you checked all the fuses on both sides of the rear panels? Most likely in your case it's something very simple it's just a matter of finding it or bringing to back to the dealer and making them cover it under warranty

I tried to bump start it and it wouldnt. I checked all the fuses yesterday, going to tear into it tonight after work and see if i can figure it out.... Very frustrated.

i know you say that you have checked out some stuff but i'll add some more, check the battery leads make sure you have power at the starter, with the new clutch/starter safety check to make sure that wire is intact, change fuse even
though it looks good or at least check it with a meter, check for pinched wires at the bars, how bout the cross over for your fi mapping?
just some thoughts
good luck and post up when you get it.

No kickstarter. However, I found the culprit I have a broke wire on the clutch safety switch. I tried to hot glue it and it didnt even last one trip thru the alley. How hard is it to replace that switch? Anyone know? Do you have to replace the entire cable and everything?

I would just over ride it! Thats the first thing I've done on my bikes with them.

Lots of people bypass that by connecting wires that essentially complete the circuit WITHOUT any clutch movement. I'm not describing HOW because I've not done it but it is simple if you find the instructions.

Honestly, to me it looks like a poor design and it isn't made to withstand much vibration or impact. The little cover where it connects to the clutch lever is where it broke. I would like instructions on how to bypass this circuit if anyone could share those with me i would appreciate it.

Here's a pic of another bike and the process. If it looks like your setup then follow the instructions.

On my Husky, I unplugged the 2 wires from the clutch perch, then I taped the 2 metal ends together, and then taped them back to the handlebar, not wanting to go to the trouble of re-routing the wires back into the headlight shell. Worked fine.

I had a similar problem. Went for a ride last week and everything was fine. Attempted another ride yesterday but it would not kick over. Removed the side covers and checked fuses etc. Removed the starter solenoid and tested it independently - OK. Walked away and had a think about the situation. Then the clutch safety switch came to mind. So I went back and checked it out. Simply pulled back the rubber wire boot and found one of the mini electrical spade terminals had fallen off the spade. Pushed it back on and away we go. I will crimp the spade terminals on more tightly today. I don't wan't that happening again.
