  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 txc250 battery issues

C Class
Morning, ok here's my problem. Went for ride over the weekend only the find out the battery was real low. Kick Started at the truck, made it about half a mile then it was all over. Red light was dim. Definitely no electric start but wouldn't even kick start. Back on the truck and heading home.

Put the battery on the charger for a while. Now the bike starts fine.

Two questions. Does the Txc have a charging cdi or am I gonna need to charge the battery every time before I ride?

Also, is there any way to fix or swap something to make the bike not depend on the battery? Similar to an mx bike with FI.

Of course the TXC has a charging system.

You need to put a volt meter on the batter and check the battery voltage while the bike is running.

Should be about 14.3 v at idle.

The battery should be around 12.8v when the bike is off.

The FI on your bike requires a battery to work.

I gonna need to charge the battery every time before I ride?

Good info from R_Little

Would only add that- these small AGM batteries discharge at a much faster rate than a car battery (which often sees daily use or close). Most use a "battery tender" or small automatic float charger when the bike sits as a good practice to maintain batteries which keeps them ready to go when needed and adds to their life expecantcy. If you ride every weekend you shouldn't have a problem though. A well maintained battery that is fully charged should not show too much discharge for minimum of 3 weeks in moderate temps. If you want a lower maintenence battery that is lighter- look at the Lifepo types like the Shorai, balistic, or something along those lines- their discharge rate is much less and can reportably sit for long periods of time without discharge for ~like 6 months to a year.

So when I got home I checked the battery with a volt meter. I have 13.1 when the bike is off and 12.8 and dropping slowly at idle. I guess the charging system isn't working after all. Which bums me out because i only have one ride on the bike. Hopefully my dealer will work with me on this one
